paul_r
Hey guys after tons of feeding and water changes my fancy guppies are finally breeding, as usual tank if full of fry, that is fine i shouldnt be complaining but approx 95% of fry are female, temp is on the low side, around 22 degrees celcius. Would this be the logical reason there are mainly females? My breeding males are very beautiful and it is irritating to only get females any help appreciated Paul
imsweet
I have the same but in reverse. my temp is 26-27 and i'm getting mostly males.
Caryl
There does seem to be a connection between temp and sex ratio.

Keri Anne
Temp does seem to effect gender try around 24-25 degrees.

Caryl
This is a family forum you know  I was going to suggest you spent less time with the guppies and more with your wife but...
Simian
I assume the same would apply to other live bearers. I isolate (to another tank)my females when looking on the bigger side I wonder at what of the pregnancy sex is determined? Fish can be funny re changing sex...anyone know/hazard a guess? Keri Anne
Don't know.... I've only proved it with guppies.
sherwin
My guppy dropped 79 then 20, and I only see about 5 females (all 1 month old). My temp is roundd 24-25c and ph is round 7.6. I heard that high ph gives you more males. Not scientific data though
