tHEcONCH
Probably Erythromycin - I just treated someone elses freshwater tank that had a bad outbreak of Blue/green, and it has worked wonders - gone in a day and no measurable effect on the biofilter at all. I'm just wondering if it might have a similar use in saltwater, although maybe there is collateral damage? Can't find anything that says DON'T use it, so maybe it hasn't been tried. Firstly we could just hook some out of a tank and see if the Erythromycin kills it, and if it does we can try it on a tank with cheap corals perhaps? davidb
I have used Erythromycin on a reef before (not mine), got rid if the Cyano but also got rid of the coralline- no visible damage to corals though...

jolliolli
seems everyone is having trouble with cyano at the mo, and it probably has something to do with the high heat. I've read of a few ppl on RC treating with erythromyacin but have been reluctant myself to try anything at the mo
tHEcONCH
Yep, its the heat no doubt. I'm pretty keen to try it on Wilson's tank before I use it on my own

tHEcONCH
It was a generous offer! I had heard on the grapevine (so it must be true) that he had a cyano mat to die for

tHEcONCH
Might it have been diatoms? If so, did you notice gazzillions of random little critters eating it?
Swampy
i left the lights off for one day.cyno went away.wouldnt using antibiotics also kill the bacteria in the liverock??
Sapphire
would it affect inverts as well?
reef
Why risk adding it to your tank, solve the cause of the problem, adding antibiotics is only going to solve it for the short term.
