Insect Direct
I know theres natural sprays/dispensers etc but if it kills flies it cant be good for fish, locusts, mealworms, newts etc in the same room can it? Could get an elctric zapper but not sure how effective they are? What do petshops do? other than cleaning
DantezGirl
good question i usually just cover up the tanks and let it rip with the fly spray its not to bad at the moment here because its slowly getting cooler but theres still enough flies to drive me nuts and just throughly wash me hands in hot water after spraying would like to know any other natural alternatives
Insect Direct
yea covering the tanks can be done, the blue tongues seem to attract the flies mre than nething else atm so might make up a screen to fit that tank, but hoping there something to control the flies but with no/lil effect on everything else lol
DantezGirl
have you tried them raid fly stickers put them on the outside of the tank ive never tried them but maybe it will work also clear any uneaten foods and move food supply outside some were or in the fridge? sorry just trying to through any ideas out there not sure what you have and what you've tried just a thought maybe not the sticker im not sure how long it takes to kill the flies but if they got into the tank the could take the poison in with them and maybe worse if the animal ate the insect
Caryl
My boss has one of those tennis racket shaped zappers and he has great fun with it.
danilada
My boss has one of those tennis racket shaped zappers and he has great fun with it. I have one to, but I find it doesn't work unless the fly is stuck in the bars and you press the zapper for 30-60 sec, then you smell an awful burning smell. Insect Direct
how about those fly traps, like a funnel on a bucket, flies go in but cant get out?? anyone used those, im geussing the bait would stink??
supasi
the trouble with those fly traps mincie, is that the smell of the bait actually attracts more flies. try a fan in the room as flying insects dont like too much air movement. Ever noticed how on a windy day , the flies seem to congregate indoors. They are getting out of the wind. Seems to work ok for me.
shadowfax
i got one of those fly traps off trade me & it didnt really work & i would rather have the flies than the stink from the trap. i cover my tanks & spray & make sure i dont catch anything for a few hours afterwards for the frogs to eat.
