perren
WERE DO BUY THE BEST LIVE ROCK (SEEDED ROCK) AT A GOOD PRICE 10 KG FOR A RSM THANKS PERREN
tHEcONCH
The only place you will find really good live rock is in other people's tanks, otherwise you have to grow your own by starting with 'dead' rock and letting coraline algae and micro organisms populate it over a few months. It is quite a slow process, but can be speeded up if you can buy a little live rock or sand from someone to kickstart the process and introduce all the little critters you need. wasp
Does it have to be Napier? In Auckland you can get some for around the price you want but not sure about Napier, somebody else might know.
Fmxmatt
My tank is about 9 months on and I'm still waiting for my coralline to take off so yes its a very slow process.

Make sure you alkalinity and Calcium levels are good, and it grows surprisingly fast (for coraline algae) - mine grows about 2-3mm / week. jolliolli
mines growing slow as well except for in my overflow.. can i ask what level you guys are keeping your Ca and Alk at. I've just boosted my alk from around 6 to 9 and Ca from 400 to 425 (i think from memory)
tHEcONCH
I keep my Calcium at about 420ppm - I don't measure Mg. Flow seems to ba a factor too - more is better (presumably because it allows a greater rate of exchange)
Fmxmatt
CA I try to keep around 450, Alk about 10dkh, and MG is over 1500ppm at the moment, and I dont know why lol

Fmxmatt
Only used it once because it made my Ca skyrocket past 500ppm, since then have already been through a 10kg bag of the regular stuff

camnbron
You could contact a local reefer (PM) and see if they have any extra live rock to spare. Only one I know that is in Nelson off the top of my head is the member known as RTBS
