fish_fingers
She's done it again.... Mummy yellow mated with the below crowntail. I should have cleaned the exterior glass before taking the photos!! Their many, many babies are now 3days old and I noticed on Monday night that half of the tiny fry are black/grey and the others are white..... never seen this before.... I took a photo but isn't very clear. Even more excited to see how they present when they get older.
Aaron-Betta
I have noticed the dark and light fry with spawns that I have had, not just with bettas either. I dont know why some come out like that. Maybe I might split up some of the darker away from the lighter ones and see what the differences are as they grow. Good luck with the fry btw. fish_fingers
Thanks for that Aaron, I have never bred CT before so is a whole new adventure for me. Will take your advice and isolate them once they get bigger. Cheers.
Adrienne
I think you will find that the lighter ones have taken up more of mums colouring and will darken off a bit as they mature and the darker ones will look more like the male. I still get spawns that throw back 4 generations to the original cambodian males I had at one stage and normally I have a mix of lighter and darker ones. In saying that I have one spawn here of a whole 12 fry that have all taken up the females colour, the male was the red one I got off you fish_fingers and the female was cambodian (flesh coloured body) with red fins. fish_fingers
Very interesting stuff, I'm always fascinated how the genetics work....just when you think you have it sorted the spawn/adults prove you totally wrong. The thought had crossed my mind with the different colours representing the parents.... time shall tell (cross fingers). I'm interested to see whether I will get any yellow variations of the father (cross fingers again) Cheers Adodge

Adrienne
Nice!!! You can see the yellow females influence with the colour of the bodies and the sheen to them.
fish_fingers
Thanks once again  They almost the same size as the yellows... little piggies.
Adrienne
how many have you got? lol - I'm very nosey as you may have guessed. My babies are growing so slowly - its because theres so many of them!
fish_fingers
Hahaha nah your all good.... I do the same to you  This was a small brood to start with and only have 7, this is the same brood as "eye one", who is doing very well. I think that's one of the downfalls of fighters is that they are quite slow to grow when conpared to other fish breeds, still gotta love how random their colours can be sometimes :-? Adrienne
is he growing (eye one) or only half of him? Random colours - yes, but the purists will be frowning. The trouble is if you put two matching randoms together, what will you get? Probably something even worse - maybe even a marble which imo is the worst ugliest fighter there is. Something only a mother could love
fish_fingers
 Seems to be growing, obviously not as fast as the others but holds his/her own against the other siblings.... also gives the snails attitude often!! Will take photos someday soon, maybe when he/she gets bigger and can all have a good look at the mystery of One-Eye. Randoms probably doesn't do the gene pool any favours but colours are lovely.... had 1-2 marbled ones and loved them like a Mother....gave the cats a break!!!
