moppets
We got my daughter 6 tadpoles for her bday last week and 3 have now turned into frogs. However we are struggling to get them to eat. The tadpoles have oxyweed and im giving them fish flakes and i have been putting lots of small flies and insects in for the frogs but it seems neither are eating their food. One tadpole just died and the other 2 are starting to look thin. I dont know what to try next. HELP PLEASE!

broms2
I find tadpoles love spiralina flakes; keep the water really clean; if frogs havent absorbed their tails they wont eat as they are gaining what they need already
repto
make sure they have access to a land area ,this is what they naturally want to do.
Tsarmina
when feeding young flying insects, remove 1 wing first
moppets
They are in a large tank and have plenty of rocks to climb onto. My main concern is the tadpoles at the moment as they are actually loosing weight and i dont know that the other 2 will make it if they dont start eating. 2 of the frogs have a few mils of tail to absorb and one is a complete frog now and he hasnt eaten anything yet and ive tried those wee green caterpillars as i thought they are a bit slower for him but maybe he just needs a few more days till he is ready to eat? Im going to go boil some lettuce now in the hopes that will help.
Varanophile
don't keep the tadpoles in a clean tank. if it looks like fish could live in it then it is all wrong. in the wild they lay eggs in temporary water so the young have no predators. best way is to keep tank green and give it light from either a light fitting or sunlight. tadpoles can breath air after first few days so don't worry about filters unless you use an undergravel with a low current. tadpoles will eat decaying vegetation so if your oxy weed is green then it is of little use. best food is standard flake and a green tank with dirty sides. becc4
how much should a newly transformed frog be eating? A couple of my tadpoles have become really lean...but I think they are not far off their front set of legs breaking through, so not long til they are frogs...the others are still fat. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what 1 frog should be eating daily. I have the fat tadpoles eating lettuce, and cat biscuits. They are also partial to my cichlids pellets

They are also partial to my cichlids pellets 1-2 small insects per feed. depends on smallness tho. usually will not feed until 2 days after tail is absorbed. best to transfer to a pet pal with a small water dish so they can get wet if they want to. Keep somewhere warm with dim lighting. feed small crickets, locusts, passion vine hoppers (jetwings), fruitflies. Best thing would be to buy a wingless fruit fly colony from biosuppliers. you will need to purchase some fine netting or use a stocking on lid of pet pal as the fruit flies may escape. froglets are very good at finding water so u do not need alot of water area, this is where most go wrong as the food drowns and the water gets stinky. the fruit fly culture will last you 3 weeks+.
