David R
I've been having on-going problems with whitespot and my clown loaches, not so much a big out-break but just a few spots coming up here and there, and the fish are often scratching on the gravel (sidetrack; how do I tell if that is from the ich or if its gill flukes?). I've been thinking about adding one of these to help try to combat it Is it worth the money or should I just keep up with the water changes, salt and whitespot cure stuff? jolliolli
If gill flukes you shouldn't see any white spots (at least i didn't observe any in mine when they contracted them)
Caryl
Most likely white spot as clowns are prone to it. Everyone seems to think UV units are great but I have never used one myself. I gather it is important to get the flow rate correct for them to work correctly.
evilknieval69
I know that if i were in your situation i would add one. However, if you can afford a bigger/better one then get the best you can, as those little ones arent hugely effective, but still will work. David R
Just went to HFF and got one rated to 300L tank (or 3000L pond), so I hope it helps!
alanmin4304
Are you doing water changes with cold water only?
David R
No, I completely drain the sump when doing a water change then fill that up first so the water can warm up while I'm doing the gravel syphon. Doesn't really matter as the water is fairly warm at this time of year, last week the heater didn't even come on after I did a 20% water change! I've turned them up to 28C to try to speed up the life cycle. I'm suspecting flukes more now as I've noticed some of the loaches and my big dat who seem unaffected by the whitespot are scratching. Might go back to HFF to get some prazi unless anyone can recommend somewhere cheaper to get it?

kd123
How does one get prazi from HFF?
David R
Walk in and hand over $50. Talked to them this morning and they said it could be whitespot in the gills that is causing the scratching, so I've decided to keep up the treatment and wait a bit before panicking about gill flukes.
