The Great White Hand
Hi My male blue ram died today (left the female widowed), he was looking colourful and healthy and happy, regular spawnings etc. until we saw him floating this afternoon. I've had him about 14mths. No obvious reason, he had been involved in some minor niggle with my No. 1 Discus though. I'll wait a while but should I get another pair or just a male for the female? Any thoughts welcome! Regards, TGWH
snookie
seems strange , seems as soon as male blue rams start to spawn hard out they die ! those females have alot to answer for . at least they die happy seem s to be a common place at the moment with blue rams  :-? The Great White Hand
Hi I've had him about 14mths, so probably not more than 18mths old. Ideally, Blue Rams have a life span of about 3 yrs don't they? Ble Rams are my favourate fish, even more so than the discus! ryanjury
Id say you did very very well to have him alive that long.. The most mine ever lasted was a few months and I tried different fish from different batches etc etc etc none of them made it! I dont think it was water conditions either as I did water changes several times a week and kept things sweet the last batch were in with discus and got daily water changes so who knows? ryanjury
LOL I'ts not that they don't like you blue rams just die..I can keep any other fish alive but them They are my favourite fish too but the wife wont let me get more because she knows they are just going to die... I did have a spawn of them when I met her but I spent to much time with her and neglected them so they died too... It's not fair LOL

tHEcONCH
Most of my rams live about three years, although there were some more recent imports that just failed to flourish and died after about a year. Perhaps it was one of that lot?

Southerrrngirrl
Yeah I've had about 4 blue rams, all died within months of purchase.. sounds like a fairly common thing. Shame really cos they are beautiful fish.
Fishy_Lips
The blue rams that have been coming in the last few months are riddled with internal parasites (alot of them are anyway)... I used to keep Blue Rams, and ours lasted donkeys... were in beautiful condition and even spawned for us, however at that stage I wasn't too interested in breeding them as such. The Bolivian Rams that have been coming in recently, alot of those have sunken in guts... have recently purchased a few and treated them internally with a good dose of metro and they are now in great nick, fattening up and eating well again... Can't wait till a nice batch of Blue Rams come in again, yet regardless, they are still going to be dosed internally. Everything we buy now gets treated. We got some young Gold Saum that looked a bit suss, gave them a good dose and they are looking perfect now, pays to be safer than sorry. Afrikan
Awww bummer Ryan :-? At least glad the Bolivians and Gold Saums responded well to treatment of that kind, wish it had of been that easy for your Blue Rams too huh :-?
