Mrs Frog
I have 2 blackmoors together in a tank, they are the only fish in there and this morning I noticed that the smaller one is almost stuck to the bigger one...everywhere the big one swims, the smaller is right behind nipping or sniffing at the bum area lol, like under the tail fins. Its still going on now. Any idea of what the little one is up too?? Is the big one going to get stressed by this constant following and 'sniffing'?? Caryl
You might find the large one is female and the smaller one is a male. If so, she will ignore him most of the time (a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do  )
Mrs Frog
Yeah I've just been watching them, the big one has a huge belly and is quite a bit bigger than the smaller one and the smaller one has tiny wee white spots near his gills that were not there when I got him?? Mrs Frog
Oh yay how neat, will my female lay eggs??
Caryl
Has she got something to lay them on? They usually spawn on the underside of lily leaves or similar. People make spawning nests out of plastic pot scrubs and stuff too.
Mrs Frog
um yeah I have plastic plants in the tank, should I put something else in there for her then? The male is really pushing her around now lol.
Caryl
I have never bred goldfish in a tank so can't help you. Anyone else?
IOU1
Yeah just some plant would work, once spawning is complete take the parents out and leave the eggs in the existing tank, this increases the number of fertile eggs as the water remains "spermed" therefore fertilising more eggs over time. Thats what I heard anyway  I'm new into goldfish like you, originally have kept tropical but want to breed something a bit different

Mrs Frog
A water change is a candle lit dinner for goldfish. I done that last night for them and since then they have gone quiet and docile. He doesn't seem to be chasing her as much now?? Is it over lol. jn
spawning behaviour often happens in the AM more than in the PM. It'll go on off and on for a good part of the summer Usually for several hours at a time I think.

gizmo72
Would they breed intaspieces as I have diffrent breed chasing my moor in my community tank. What should I do?
Caryl
They are all just variations of the same fish Carassius auratus so will interbreed no problem at all.
