Guest
I have decided to breed something other than platy's. I had two choices WCMM and some sort of Danio. So I decided to try to breed WCMM because they didn't eat their young and they were hardy. So I bought 15 of them and over 3 days they all died so now I have decided to breed some sort of Danio. I was thinking either gold or leopard (I think thats what they are called). So I was wondeing if anyone had any info on them? I looked on the internet and it kept bringing up info on zebra danios. Whats the best way to breed them? whats the smallest tank to raise the fry in? What do youfeed they fry? and any info you know about them. Any help is appreciated. ryanjury
I think they're basic egg layers, seperate the sexes fatten them up, they like to swim a bit so maybe 45-60cm tank have marbles or a spawning net over the bottom to protect the egg's.. They will lay 100's of eggs babies eat microscopic food easy as..

In saying that mine have breed VERY well......  (See post on here if you want to know more about them.) They are egg layers...males chase females at first light.... Because males chase you will need to give them some room...Note males can get a little over the top Females are the ones with bigger under bellies Males are slighter and have better colour... Frozen "live" food I've found the best to get them in condition... Danios LOVE bloodworm!!!! You will see females start to get rather big bellies this is when you know you'll on the right track. Temp 24 .... give low light first thing in the morning and sit back and watch the "fun" :bounce:  Fry: .... I've been feeding mine on liquidfry food... Just trying out Nobil fluid (going well so far) some of my older ones are also getting a little flake food rubbed to a fine power. You will need to keep a good eye on water levels... adivce is to do VERY careful water changes daily (so I have read - somewhere  )..... I'm not doing this so much now and so far ammonia levels etc are all good...... I have a good cycled filter, air pump, and plants so guess this had helped me? have a small filter ready (when free swimming) and have air pump on right from the start..... also plants are good (fry like to hide and swim in these are much happier with these) All the best!! :bounce: :bounce: There lots of fun to watch growing up! oh note they REALLY LIKE TO JUMP!!!!!! so have a lid on tank! Tsarmina
mine was a little easier than that. i have pearl danios. small tank with only natural light set up as follows: air stone marbles 3 weighted clumps of indian fern heater 24oC water. pulled out from main tank 1 female and 1 male. put in tank i left them in the tank for a few days as had some serious family issues to deal with. fed lightly so as not to leave mess. also fed mozzie larvae. noticed, after issues resolved, an egg with fry inside. removed parents. that evening saw 1 fry on side of tank next morning saw 2 that evening saw a whole heap of them the following day they were all free swimming. have been feeding liquifry and powdered flake mixed together in water, then squirted into tank using eye dropper. they are now a week old (from free swimming) and there are far too many to try and count

tHEcONCH
Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone know whats easier to breed leopard or gold danios? They are all very easy - choose the one you think other people will be interested in buying, otherwise you will end up with a lot of fish with no place to go. alanmin4304
All danios are reasonably easy, as the man says---breed the ones you can easily get rid of because without much trouble you could get lots.
Guest
Yeah good point the lfs said that they would take any that I can breed as they sell them quickly so I don't think it really matters I just thought that their might have been a easier one of the two
Tsarmina
i have read that pearl danios are quite difficult to get rid of, though i do have 'homes' for all of mine that don't sell
Dixon1990
Those 'homes' for them wouldnt happen to be in other fishes mouths would they?
