Aquarium Dude
Could I have a large fish in my tank, its 450l and heavily planted with quite a few small fish in it. Something like an oscar or something??
tHEcONCH
Err... not an Oscar - they will eat any other fish that they can get into their mouth. Adult Discus look pretty good and are relatively placid, but in general big fish eat smaller fish
Ianab
What are the small fish you have already? That will help determine what you can put in there. An Oscar would be a bad idea, although I'm sure the O would enjoy the free food and then proceed to demolish the plants for desert. me love fishy
Angels or gouramis would be alright, but only angels if your smaller fish are bigger than neon tetras, cos they might try to eat them. I don't think gouramis eat neons though (well not from my experience). I am talking about golden gouramis or pearl gouramis, that size. tHEcONCH
Some things like Silver 'Sharks' can grow quite large - no sure about their temperament, though.

tHEcONCH
Go and have a look in Organism on Ilam Road - John has quite a few interesting larger fish, and you can judge the compatibility by what else he has in the tanks.
Ira
Severums, Uaru, Surinamensis, Jurupari are a few that come to mind.
Foxglove
What about gourami or rainbowfish? They're generally more peaceful than cichlids. I had a beautiful silver Moonlight gourami - until she outgrew my tank!

Naz_Nomad
keyhole cichlid? Keyhole Cichlids are perfect for every community tank, full of personality and very friedly. I have five of them and they love everybody. they apparently don't do well if there are other more competitive cichlids in the same tank. Ianab
A big pleco would be fine with your small fish, but it might accidently do a number on your plants. They have all the grace of an out of control bulldozer, and a similar effect on any delicate plants. Smaller ones like Bristlenose would be great though, not really BIG fish, but compared to a neon they are huge Otherwise some smaller loachs like zebras might be OK? Bala sharks are big and peacefull, but they get REALLY big, might swallow a few neons when they get big. Cheers Ian
