stimpy29
another question.... if you have a pump that has twin outlets and you join them together to make one outlet is it bad for your pump or does it reduce the flow?
ryanjury
I do it lol but unsure if its bad for the pump or not
cichlid7
yea me too and i did it with a 4 outlet pump  lots of bubbles
Ira
It restricts the flow, so you get less total flow than from two lines. But you get more air through that one line than you would from either of the two on their own.
doch
as long as the outlet is going to the same size airline you should get 2x the outlet in your tank
doch
if youhave a spare outflow you cant join to anything it is wasted air
Ira
as long as the outlet is going to the same size airline you should get 2x the outlet in your tank Only if you don't have it going through tiny little narrow airline hose. You can't cram twice as much air through the same size hose without increasing the backpressure.
alanmin4304
You can actually as air does not behave the same way as water.
livingart
You can't cram twice as much air through the same size hose without increasing the backpressure. this makes more pressure on the diaphragms, possibly shorter life we have 2 four outlet pumps into 12mm pipe system
alanmin4304
If you look at the internal diameter of the outlet on the air pumps you will find it is generally a lot less than the internal diameter of the air hose. If you double the diameter of a water pipe you get four times the flow. Air does not behave the same way as water because water is virtually noncompressible. Air is far less dense and is easily compressible and therefore has a lot less friction loss and causes a lot less back pressure. I think the outlet of air from a double outlet pump joined together would be very similar to one not joined.
