single convict laying eggs

Featured Replies

ive got a single convict in one of my tanks along with two blue acaras and four kribs and she has just layed alot of eggs, but theres no male(convict in the tank).

has any one had this before?

could she be trying to breed with one of the other fish :(:(

Will be like chickens, they lays eggs whether they get fertilised or not.

You have a female that would like to be breeding.. just lacking a mate :-?

yah i've got 3 males but in other tanks with partners, could i take the flower pot out and put it in with a pair or would they just eat them?

as they was no male in the tank with her when she spawned, theres no chance of them being fertile.

i'm lucky. i've had convicts for over a year now and they've never bred. i started with 83 fry (got them at last years auction for $1) i only have 8 left. 1 white and 7 striped. i think the white one is a male, but i really don't have a clue on how to sex them

Yeah.. to late to fertilise them now...

But if you do want to breed them it's a good sign that your female is keen and in good coondition. Pair her up with a male in a suitable sized tank and see what happens. She will probably be ready to lay more eggs in a month or so.

Cheers

Ian
