kiwiplymouth
Thanks for all the info regards my previous thread. I am a little concerned re: the use of tank water and have the option to use river water from the riwaka river. We are only about 1km from the source of the riwaka river which comes from a hole in the side of the takaka hills after filtering for a month or so through limestone caverns. By the time the water gets to us it has passed by a few farms and orchards so i suppose a few unwanted chemicals may have entered the water. The riwaka river is full of trout and native lobsters. Would this be a better option for use in my tanks over tank water especially in the winter when we have the fire going? Cheers
alanmin4304
If it originates in limestone country it may be high in Calcium which could be good or bad depending on what type of fish and plants you want to keep.
Caryl
Again, I suggest you get samples of both your tank water and the river water and see what the pH of both og them is. Then decide.
purplecatfish
Also check the hardness
coelacanth
I would be a bit wary of using water from a source that has wild fish in it.
jn
You tank water should be fine really. Didn't mean to alarm you If it's too soft that can easily be fixed and would be alot less trouble than having to go get water elsewhere. Fish do get parasites and stuff and I'd be worried about using river water I think cause you don't know what's in there.
