fulloc
is it just me or are the "thermostats" in the submersible heaters just bulls***? cos iv tried both of mine (relatively new and appropriate wattage) in both my tanks and no matter how high i turn then (max is 34C as usual) they wont heat the water over 27C. does this need i need more or is it some kind of anomaly? cheers
Rockerpeller
try putting the heaters in high flow areas.
jim r
How big are the tanks?
michael.qian
what's the size of the heaters and the tank? if heater too small and tank too big it won't work very well, or if it's in an area of low water flow it will only heat one area more than the other. Adrienne
As above suggestions, also don't place the heater straight up and down, put it on an angle otherwise the heat goes straight up over the thermostat. Heaters should be 1 1/2 watts per litre of water.
Ira
1: Yes the numbers on heaters are BS. It's well known and has been that way forever. 2: Why do you want your tank so hot? 3: If the heaters won't heat it over 27 when turned all the way up the tank is either stagnant and you have a hot bubble around the heaters and the rest cold or you need bigger heaters. fulloc
yeh its for discus, heaters are in high flow areas and also on an angle. iv got a 100w in a 30l tank and a 300w in a 1200x350x350. il keep playin and see wat i can do. may put another in the big tank. thanks for the help
Ira
Put another heater in each. 300W in the bigger tank is definitely not going to do it over winter if it's not insulated. Summer will be fine. My tank is just slightly bigger and over winter going flat out the heater keeps it just above 24.
markoshark
If its a Jager, it should be fine
HummingBird
Maybe it's not the thermostat that's bs, but your thermometer. Both are commonly inaccurate, though.
