hydroponic filter

have seen a hydroponic setup at a vegeshop and thought about using it as a filter on a tank? does anyone know if it will work or are the ferts needed anti fish? if aquatic plants grow with just the nutrients from fish poo then would veges? LOL

Any ideas

The problem is that the nutrient level for hydroponic plants is much higher than you would want in a fish tank.

There are some systems that use slower growing plants like orchids and moss that grow as epiphytes in the tops of trees. They grow slower than tomatos and cucumbers, but can live on much lower nutrients.

It might be possible to set up an orchid window box as a tank filter?

Cultivating water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) would be as popular with the powers that be as breeding glow danios or smuggling plants.

Yep, water hyacinth is a 'Pest Plant' and therefore banned or illegal to posses. If you have it I suggest you burn it before you are caught with it (don't dump it whatever you do...)
