Hi all, with summer approaching & my family now being totally geared up for camping, the only thing left to sort out is how my fish are going to get their food. what is available in the way of automatic fish feeders? Anyone had much experience with these?

i use the ehiem one. it works great but they bloody cost like $160

i won't be camping far enough away to justify that sort of cost, i have looked on petplanets website but there's nothing on there at the mo. any ideas of what is available locally?

How long will you be away for each trip? If you have a well established, well planted, well filtered, not overstocked tank you can leave them (depending on species) for up to 10 days without food. I do this to mine (gouramis, barbs, tetras, hoplos, BNs, loaches, rasboras) with no problem at all.

its my africans that will home alone. i expect a week at a time so they could be fine. or they may get hungry & agressive?

I think it is more that you have to be careful what type of food you put in the auto dispensers. Flake can get damp and clump together and block the feeder.

If you have someone clearing the letterbox or feeding other animals, get a pill container that divides into single days and put the right amount in each section with intructions to feed the fish from the right compartment on the right day. Hide all other fish food.
