Warren
If there is oily muck at the tank surface it can be easily siphoned off. If you get a gravel cleaner and turn it upside down with the end partly out of the water it will suck in the oily scum. You have to constantly adjust the height and hold it at an angle but it works great. Is easier than buckets.
Alan_au
Hmmm I haven't struck this problem in may years, it used to be quite common way back before all the new fangle filters etc.. Just a sheet of newspaper, cover the whole surface with the paper and let it soak up the surface film. turn off any air or filters tho first. Warren
Great idea, never would have thought of it!
Interfecus
Wouldn't the ink in the newspaper get into the tank? Most black newspaper ink is non-toxic but the coloured inks are often poisonous so you should be careful.
Caryl
plain newsprint or paper towels would work too.
