jasper
Howdy all, I am a complete noobie to auqauriams and have recently set up a new tank... We have 6 glow light tetras ( seem to love it in there) 4 bristle noses' and 2 red tail sharks, the Ph is neutral, temp is 25.8Deg, 3 assorted plants and I have cleaned the filters... I have had water in the tank now for 18 days. My problem is this ugly whiteish coulored slime accumulating on heaters and plasitc plant replica. Ps. is it possible to post pictures on this forum
Caryl
Yes you can post pics if you upload them into an online site first (like Photobucket). Keep them small though please (640 x 480 or less and under 128kb) I have heard of others with this white slime in new set-ups and it seems to disappear as the tank matures. Wipe it off in the meantime.

animal_lover
Ive had the same problem and I too was wondering what it was but kept forgetting to ask! I have a question though is it harmful at all to the fish and will my bristlenose get rid of it or do I need to wipe it off myself? Caryl
Doesn't appear to be harmful
bdspider
I had the same thing, it only grew on the rubbery bits of my heater. After I'd wiped it off once of twice, it never came back, so I guess the new tank theory is right.
Guest Anonymous
Its something to do with new heaters, if you clean them well before you put them in the tank you wont see anything. Completely harmless.
