SpidersWeb Posted May 9, 2007 Report Share Posted May 9, 2007 GH - General Hardness (Calcium etc) KH - Carbonate Hardness (Alkalinity/pH Buffer) I'd get a GH/KH kit, or go to your local fish store, most of the bigger ones will do the test for free or a small fee. alanmin4304 Posted May 9, 2007 Report Share Posted May 9, 2007 If you are on a Council water supply ring them as they have to test the water for a lot of things including hardness. The age of a dwelling is not likely to affect the water hardness. For instance the water in Christchurch is from many different artesian wells from the second or third artesian strata and is about 45 ppm. There are four artesian strata.
