Tsarmina
are the water parameters for a turtle the same as a fish tank?? i have nitrites and nitrates showing.
alanmin4304
I have never worried about it. I try to keep the water reasonably clean and have heavy filtration on my adults. They are not like fish and have no gills so it does not worry them the same.

Tsarmina
the ammonia level is at 0.25 before a water change. will the nitrItes have any negative effects on the turtle?? am doing water changes, etc, but just want to make sure its not going to cause any serious damage. sharronpaul
I've never worried greatly at water parameters with my turtles (redear and snakeneck). I give them a 50% change every three weeks or so and clean all the crud off their filter every 10 days.
WTM
I concur with the others.... You honestly don't need to worry about water parameters (as you do with fish). Turtles are relatively pretty hardy... As long as you have decent filtration, and do regular "substantial" w/cs you will be fine, you will quickly know if the water needs changing sooner. ~W
