Casper
Does anyone have any Advice on these guys We have some Guppies, Neons, Gouramis and angels, in a wee 57 ltr Tank, we have just moved house and all the fish seem to be doing really well, (apart from our 1 casualty a sword tail) we are getting set up at the moment a 300 ltr tank, and plan to move the bigger fish into the larger tank asap, i bought a air pump and stone the other day but couldnt wait to set it up, so i hooked it up to the smaller tank, normally the Loaches are quite happy swimming around and chasing eachother playing merrily, tho the same day that i put the air line in, they both hid, and became very somber. i really dont wanna loose these wee guys because they are my fav's any advice? also does anyone know how to tell male and female apart? Temp is aprox 24-25 nitrate 0 and nitire 0 ammonia is at .2 but decreasing with water changes (assuming tis up because of the new water after the move

Afrikan
They are not suitable for a peaceful aquarium.. I currently have 3 very large Blue Botia (Red or Orange Finned Botia) and they are suitable for a large fish tank only or with fish who can hold their own. They would happily terrorize and chew your fishes fins when they get larger. Mine are in a huge tank out at my husbands work with large fish, and they know their place  However, they would have a field day in a peaceful fish setting. They can also get to around 7-10 inches in size and if fed well are relatively fast growing. The only sexual difference is the females are much plumper all around. And as far as I know they haven't been bred in Aquariums.
Casper
Hrm. you see Afrikan, i have 2, and they are very peacful ive never once seen them chase any of the other fish, only each other and they seem to love it! its like its a great game, just got a little worried about them altho they dont seem to look like botia modesta as they are alot longer and slimmer. with out the high ridge
Afrikan
I couldn't see the pic.. what did you purchase them as? When I first got mine they were rather small, slim... and seemed shy.. however as they have grown (now rather large) they are alot more bulshy and not shy about coming out during the day. I have never kept them in with peaceful fish simply because of the fact that most information you read about them clearly states to have them in with larger fast moving fish such as large species Barbs or Semi Aggressive to Aggressive Cichlids. Alot of loaches are most active at night, so you might see them as shy during the day but you don't get to see what they get up to when the lights are out

Alan
If you bought them as orange-finned botia, I'd go back to the LFS for a refund. I'm sure those sharks are a lot cheaper than the botias.
Casper
lol, nah only paid about $12 each for them, and they are great!
davidb
dunno how they will go with more than 1 in your tank. only reccomeded to have one as they can be nippy towards fish of the same species.
SpidersWeb
They get quite large too (around 15cm or so), and are annoyingly territorial as they get older. I'm not a big fan of them myself. Compatible Tank Mates: Because of their temperament it is a good idea to house them with similar sized fish. Do not keep with other Rainbow sharks and Red Tail Sharks From http://www.fishlore.com/profiles_rainbow_shark.htm
Afrikan
I'm with SpidersWeb, they can get very stroppy and territorial with age.. and also not a fan... as they get older the whole peaceful community setting might end the opposite, so just keep a close eye.
