Ok, Im getting another tank( To many fish out there and not enough room)Only want a 3ft one but was thinking about rest of the measurements? Do cichlids need tank to be deep and what about the width??

What are you looking at keeping? Not all cichlids are alike when it comes to room, swimming levels.... Some mbuna for example would be ok in a 3x15x18.

africans don't need that much height in the tank but angels like alot

Breeding colony of peacocks fine. Humpheads no worries. Electric blues may get a bit big for a tank that size.

Go 4ft at least. I can see it now. Few africans now. Then more later. Then they breed. It just never stops

i started with a 3 footer that grew to a 6 footer ,now i have both and still more tanks to come. i think i have cichlidacitis?.is their a cure?

i think you should work out what size you need and go one size bigger!.call it a saftey margin, and more room for fish

my tanks are 500x500 and the 6 footers 500x700 plenty of room for rock walls etc
