MrEd
Hi all. I have bought a second hand Diatom filter XL and am having trouble sourcing parts and when I contacted the manufacturer (USA) they don't seem to willing to help out as they only sell to retailers. Any suggestions as I hope I haven't bought a lemon. Broadlands only have impellers! The other thing these filters used to be the bees knees but is the technology obsolete? Alan
What parts were you looking for??
alanmin4304
I used to have three of them but chucked them out because of the difficulty in getting parts. They were very good and would filter down below one micron with the right media.
Alan
http://www.mops.ca/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe ... ?E+scstore There is a site that you can see all the parts in the XL
Wok
definitely need to get the parts yourself from the USA www.petdiscounters.com may help... they are the only fish shop in the USA that is willing to send things out by airmail. Very helpful too.
MrEd
I need a new bag, impeller and seal. Is it worth fixing up? Thanks everyone for the info!
Alan
The cost on those parts alone will be approx. $45NZ, then the shipping costs on top. Your choice.
Wok
if you don't want your diatom filter... I am willing to take it off your hands
Glenn
suggest you goggle diatom filters and find their home page.I have bought replacement parts (bags, seals, impellors, etc)off their on-line store with no problems. Also I would suggest contacting your local swimming pool to see if they use (and will sell you) the diatom powder. alanmin4304
I think the diatom powder used in swimming pool fiters is a lot more course.
Alan
Put it thru a flour sifter. works perfectly. Cheaper than the LFS too, by dollarssssssssss. Don't breathe the dust, wear a mask.
