Rocks From river/beach

Milet

Recommended Posts

A lot of the gravel used in aquariums originates from Canterbury. I would not use Janola, just rinse it well. Limestone will raise your pH, as will shell if you get fine gravel or sand from a beach. If you do this, try to get it above the high tide line.

HiAll

So long as you give your "ROCKS" a good cleaning before putting them in your tank they should be fine.

I have used all sorts of rocks over the years with NO DETRIMENTAL EFFECTS.

I use the weather worn Sandstone rock from the Kaikoura Coast.

I have Marble from Pupu Springs, and even ordinary rock from rivers and the seashore.

Kaikoura rock with Dwarf Cichlids...Ramerizi.

Pupu Springs Marble with Apisto. cacatuoides.

If the rock looks good and you like it...................USE IT .

Not hijacking or anything...................but

When I mentioned to my Grandparents that I had been recommended oyster shell for my malawis, they went scouring the local beach (Whitianga) and collected an enormous bag of SCALLOP shells (bless them). Would these be alright in the tank as opposed to the filter?
