MGilchrist
Heres my two cents. 1 empty a medium size tank, keep as much water as possible (saves time reheating) and keep filters going as long as possible, set up at new house. 2 fit a couple of tanks worth of fish in there, I know this will be very crowded, but is only for short term. can use something like shade cloth to make divisions in the tank and help prevent fights 3 continue with process untill done, take care lifting larger tanks, easy to chip a corner or break a lid/bracing, this will totally bugger your day (done it recently lifting a tank ) 4 get a large water container from a local fishie person and a pump, much easier to pump than syphon. good luck Mark

polgara
Well the time has come and we have started the big move. We got the 6 foot tank moved and into the new place, filled it with water though a garden hose. Hmmm well that didn't go down well, and I had to empty the tank again and fill it by bucket. It has now been filtering for 24 hours, and hopefully I will get some of the fish moved today. I am so sore already, and have found muscels in places that I didn't know I had them. But by Saturday I hope to be all moved in. Only 7 tanks to go. :-?
Caryl
Well you started with the biggest so it will all be easier from now on. Keep any canister filters wet and plugged back in as soon as possible to keep the bacteria going. Make sure the heaters are cool before moving them from the water, or they will crack. Don't forget to plug them back in again at the other end! Why didn't filling with the hose work? I do that a lot. Hope you have plenty of people to help. I would go for a massage when you are finished. You deserve it
polgara
The hose was brand new, as the dog had chewed though the old one, and me in a hurry to heat the water in the 6 footer, used one tank load of hot water fillin from the washing machine taps though the new hose. BAD BAD BAD, all the chemical in the new hose came out into the tank, and wow did it stink. So yes that is why I had to empty it and refill. But today so far I have moved the jewels into the big tank, and the guppy tank is moved. Later tonight I hope to get the bigger fish from the commuitty tank into the 6 footer as well (hoping the jewels will behave) and move another smaller tank to get the others into. While doing all this I am also packing and unpacking other house stuff. SO it is a big job.
Dark
we were up in hamilton over the holidays and i did intend to stop in and see if i could offer a hand... karma ate that one for brekky - when we got back our landlord advised us that he wanted the flat back and now i have the honorable task of moving all of mine fortunatly this time i have a garage so i can start expanding my preoccupation with collecting tanks then finding a use for them! polgara
Well I must say that all has gone well. We are all moved in and happy, only three fish deaths. 1 platty, 1 firemouth, and one little catfish. But we are almost though another week, and everyone else looks great. Infact when I had finished setting everyone up, hmmm I had one spare tank. Oh what to do with it.............lol.......I now have oscar the oscar. He is a sweetie. Good luck with your move Dark, hope it goes as well as mine.
Dark
my only fear is that the tank i built in the living room will not get out of the building - i took rough measurements at the time... i'm sure nothing would please someone more than to have to dismantle their tank after 8 months to get it out the door!
