dhindry
Well on a day like today the poor tank is having trouble keeping cool. I purchased a fan from bunnings on the weekend, one with the grill that spins around. I also hung the metal halides from chains, to get them higher above the water. I also installed an extraction fan above the sump to pull the warm air outside. It has taken the temperature down from mid 28's to approx 26 - 27 degrees. I have started logging my tank temperatures, and it is interesting to see that the water takes a long time to cool down, even when the room is cooler. Http://myreeftank.co.nz:8083/temploggerd/cgi-bin/all.temperature.rrd.cgi?params=-s-1day Link works best in firefox I have been trying to find a diy link or somesuch to a cooling tower, that uses evaporation to help aid cooling. Deltec make the eco cooler.
JDM
just got home, house very hot, tank 27.5 with all fans running (2 large pc fans over tank and big pedistal fan pointing down on sump), about to drop in a bottle of frozen water, hmmmm chiller is now gone from wish list to need list. :-? Ira
26.1, hasn't gotten above 27 so far that I'd noticed. I have the same kind of fan as Dhindry has. Served me well for one summer so far.
dhindry
Not a bad fan for $24. Turn it up high and it makes waves on the water surface
reef
Tanks are ok to about 30c, make sure you have plenty of water movement as this helps a lot. so far never had a chiller , temp is currently on 29C. Cheap fans from also help to reduce temp.

cookie extreme
whats a chiller? mine sits around 26C. heaters are unplugged since mid december (had a few cold nights when the tank dropped to 21C). if it gets warmer i will just have to change my light cycle and crank up the aircon to keep it at 26C. skippy
Came back from my Xmas break (30 Dec) and tank was at 29.9 and had a superb outbreak of red algae all over my sand. Couldn't figure it out as the chiller was set at 25. Have since figured out the thermostat on my chiller has drifted about 7 degrees so it wasn't kicking in  Need to replace it, but now have the chiller set at 18 and it keeps my tank at about 25.5 together with switching off the MH's for a couple of hours in the early afternoon. Heater has been off since about October. Its warmer up here you know
suphew
My tanks been sitting on 27 but fans (on temp controller) are running 24/7. Why do you guys unplug your heaters??? They are only going to come on when your temp drops low enough, and you risk forgetting to plug them in if you have a cold spell.
cookie extreme
Why do you guys unplug your heaters this way they wont come on when the temp drops a bit during the night. but its real genocide once you plug them back in april/may. if you have a cold spell. you must live past the bombay's whats a cold spell? 20 deg? 8)
subflex
Mine got up to 30 last weekend! got a fan running during the day now and it sits at 27. Nothing seemed to be upset with the constant high temperatures lately though
cookie extreme
They are only going to come on when your temp drops low enough i love my power bill during summer, just shows how much those heaters really suck the power.

So is this stuff temperature related? I've got a real good crop all over the sand too.
