Discusguru
They are definately much more harder to keep than tank bred discus. But they good for crossing if you can get them to breed :bounce: Ron

reef
Some updated pics. tank going cloudy for a few day. algae bloom. added a 24w uv and cleared are two day. I think having a UV is a must if you have bright lights as it will kill the algae spores. Added co2 unit after 1 month Temp controller and bioclean additive which you add evry two weeks, basically cleans tank. also under cable heater controller some cories feeding After 5 weeks pic, cant believe how hard it is to get any decent plants in this country, i thought marines where hard enough. Running 4 t5s at the momment, will be ading 150w meatl halide and 2 x39w t5s next week, this should increase light and plant growth. discus still to be added in 1 month
Brianemone
Looks good Reef. How are you introdusing the co2?? at at what rate are you running it?
reef
co2 goes thru a tunze co2 diffuser, 1 bubble a second at this stage.
quack
what kind of uv light have you been using? what k rating are you tubes? looking good so far! are those panda corys? i love them thats what i want for my tank, but they are almost imposible to get in nelson ( in saying that everythings hard to get here)
reef
24w from hollywood fish farm. Tubes are 6500k and 2 x blue tubes. all bulbs i had as Tank will have a metal halide over it. going to try 12000K reeflux bulb. the corys are Adolfie
penguinleo
Hi Reef. Nice start. Very nice set up. You should really have 4 6500k bulbs don't you think? And did you get the T5 from Hollywood? I bought my T5 light from Hollywood and they changed the 2 blues for 2 additional 6500k lights at no charge. Nice cories! p.s: Come look at my tank set up thread sometime..will be up soon.
reef
i am going to try a higher kelvin bulb as it might stop the algae for growing, so far i have not even cleaned the glass after 2 months. The plants are growing very well. i hate the yellow look for 6500k. I noticed more blue makes the plants flower. Will see how it goes over the next month when the halides are on to see if the plants react to the higher kelvin. I do use some rowaphos to reduce po4 so this might be stopping the algae from growing.
Brianemone
to get the plants growing well you shouldnt be removing the PO4, if anything you should dose it, sometimes upping the co2 can reduce the algae
reef
Yes plants use it to a point as there is a balance. i think i will have more than enough po4 in the tank for feeding as many foods contain po4. I only have a few rowaphos sponges so i am not removing it so quickly. do plants take organic po4 or inorganic po4? good questions for the experts? Just tested my po4 and it is over 3ppm so more than enough po4. here is a good link on po4 levels. http://www.aquariumpros.com/forums/showpost.php?p=39747&postcount=
penguinleo
6500K is more of a purplish white.
Brianemone
6500K is more of a purplish white. 6500k can appear very yellow to people accustomed to reef tanks, I like a nice clean white look (10k) but for the plants i'll have a mixture of T5 bulbs, if using halides i would probably endup using a 10k bulb that has a good colour range for plants
evilknieval69
6500k can appear very yellow to people accustomed to reef tanks, That would have to be a very true statement. Very nice development reef, if only we all had the money to go out and buy a new co2 setup, under gravel heating, temp controller, nice fish, nice tank  One day!!
