shadowfax
after abit of reading they seem to be simple but effective & under-rated, what are your opinions on them, pros & cons?
alanmin4304
I have them on three 1200mm tanks and they are great. I have a large Eheim on my turtles because they are grubby wee darlins but my other tanks are heavily planted and not heavily stocked with fish. Ira
I find they've far too low capacity and clog up too quickly.
Caryl
Certainly good for fry tanks but, as Ira said, they clog up quickly in other tanks.
fishboi
i use them for fry tanks only and need to be cleaned at least once a week but works well.
Billaney
i use a lot of them , mainly on fry tanks or any tank where the fish are small enough to get cought in more powerful filters , they do clog up but its quick and easy to clean them out once a week
alanmin4304
Mine are impellar driven not air lifts and they work well for months on end without any cleaning.
shadowfax
well i have had one in my tank for a week now & did my weekly gravel vac yesterday & was suprised how little muck i scooped up. i cleaned the sponges & the water in the bucket went brown so they seem to be doing a good job so far. alanmin4304
I only clean the sponges when the flow is very restricted because they work best when filled with gunk.
Insect Direct
I find them great especially for fry or small fish etc, & I agree about the gunk to as long as the flows still going then theyre doing there job and the gunks generally good bacteria! Also good to have them running in an existing tank for a couple of weeks ready to chuck in a new tank as its a great way of transfering good bacteria & saves time on cycling any new setup!! shadowfax
i wont clean it again for awhile then!! but so far im happy with it.
richms
When they are too full they stop working well, just dont be anal about cleaning them, give them a quick squeese in the bucket of tank water to remove the worst, then put them back in, sure, some crud will go into the water, but better that then lose all the good stuff from the filter.
