How many watts are the lights?

Different plants need different amounts of light, often the really nice looking ones are the ones that need more light. Also are you leaving the plants in once the leaves fall off? Often plants are grown with the leaves out of the water, this makes them grow faster and not get covered in algae. The problem is that the leaves when grown out of the water are different from leaves grown under water so they tend to die off, but should be replaced quickly.

AR-850 84x44x58cm 155 liters

http://www.aquariumsdelivered.co.uk/cat ... p-177.html

try and aim for at the very least 1watt per 2 litres. anything over 10000K doesn't count. ur blue/purple light would be 14000K.

if ur tubes are 25watts i would change them all to between 6500K to 10000K bulbs. i personally wouldn't bother trying anything else without good lighting to start with unless u pick all low light plants.

ok i will look at replacing the bulbs

i got it wrong somehow aswell, the blue one is 15000k.

so basically i just need the right lights i dont need to add anything to the water like flourish excell etc.

not unless u have an algae problem. ferts can come later.

what suphew means is sometime plants we buy from LFS are grown in hydroponic systems which means when we replant them in to our tanks they would get rid of their original leafs which they've grow while above water and grow new ones now they are submersed which makes them seem like their dieing.

I have the exact same tank as you and have managed to keep plants alive and well not in perfect condition but I'm still only a beginner. I have no idea what plants they are though, there are two types of tall growing ones, one with big leaves, the other with quite small leaves and the other plant is like a creeper type with long slender leaves, sorta looks like a flax bush? It has runners going out all over the bottom of the tank.

Best advice I was ever given for planting is not to stick the new plant straight into the substrate. Let it sink to the bottom (if it has weights on it) and let it just sit there until you see thin roots start to grow, then you can plant it. Thats what I did last time and I haven't had to remove any dead plants yet.
