Steve P
I have recently moved to Wellington from Gisborne and am looking into setting up a reef tank. I Previously had a 4 foot fish only marine tank and dont have any experience with live corals. I am wondering if anyone in the Wellington area has some tanks that i could view and get some advice/ideas off. As i got rid of my 4 foot tank I will be starting this project from scratch.Would it be better to buy a set up already built or build one from scratch??. I am not to sure on size yet maybe around the 200 litre size. Any help would be appreicated

TimTam22
I got a full set up off trademe, its only a 170ltrs with sump and all the extras, heres a pic I'm happy with it as i only paid $150 for the whole set up, it did include a fish but the little dude died but it doesn't suprise me as it took me like 5 hours to get all set up again after i got it home  By the way note that the closest fish shop with marine fish is in papaparaumu and they have one tank for marines :-? Afrikan
Welcome to the Forum Steve We keep mostly freshwaters, mostly African species, however we do have a marine tank, awesome bow front tank, approx 160 litres, it's been awesome to keep however, we are having to make room in the place we are in, until we move, so we are parting with it. But keeping the fish out at hubbys work, for when we move to bigger place and eventually have another one  Good Luck with your marine tank venture and I am sure there are heaps on the forum that will guide you Mekhaela

TimTam22
hay timtam cool little set up u got there, where is the over flow? the overflow is the pipe on the right hand side, and sump is nicely tucked in the stand, unfortunately the skimmer is too tall to fit in the sump so you have to see it :-? I will be painting the back of the tank blue in the next week or so before i get anymore fish so you can't see the pipes. Steve did you find some tanks to go and visit?? any plans yet?? TimTam22
It can't be that small i'm sure you could find a place for it if worst came to worst you could always relocate

Steve P
When i moved here i sold my house in Gissy and am only renting here(and of course the property managers here sign you up to a 1 year lease) so moving is out of the question for a while-i miss my old place as the living room was 10.5 metres long and 4.5 metres wide and i had a 4 foot and a 3 foot tank (and could have fitted twice that and still not looked cluttered) yea any way where theres a will theres a way So can anyone tell me what is the approx tank limit is that the floor would hold in a house on piles (up on the side of a hill too) 1/2 to 1 tonne maybe and if so what size tank would that be ??? 500litres???
