Ira
Easiest way is to leave the cannister empty, put the inlet hose in the tank, suck on the outlet house until it starts siphoning into the cannister then connect everything back up and turn on the power. If it still doesn't go, disconnect the outlet house and have it siphon through the cannister into a bucket for a few liters.

Caryl
So which suggestion was the answer?
lorrainel
well actually i took everyone's advice i took the whole thing apart and gave everything a good scrub then banged it a few times. checked and rechecked that i connected up the hoses the right way around filled the filter up with water and then turned it on and sucked water through the hoses until all the air bubbles were gone and it worked like a charm  my partner told me it wouldn't work but it did! really showed him!! i'm so happy now saved me money on buying a new filter

slappers
the easiest way i found to fix it is to throw it in the bin and buy a new one
jim r
the only thing to go wrong is the impeller and they are freely available for under 20$. So when you throw it away throw it my way.
