Myst
Hi, Just wondering if aquariums need a backing to them or is it just to make them look pretty? My assumption is that the fish will be fine without a backing, but i better ask anyway Thanks
Caryl
Not a requirement for the fish. It is only to make the tank look nicer and hide the cords from the heaterstat etc. It can also look a little odd depending on the wallpaper behind it . Having fish swimming past giant sunflowers can be disconcerting
Shilo
I don't know Caryl, A long finned and peaceful species wearing psychedelic colours would fit right in. Yeah, real groovy. If they started to roll some of your aquarium plants, then I would get worried.
Goldie
   @ Shilo. I like the backing on the tanks because it helps give the illusion of depth.
Robbo
Hi Myst, I once backed a tank with a thin mirror. Had an awesome effect if you don't mind seeing yourself ! Robbo
spent
If you have the tank near a window where it will be in dirrect sunligt, having a backing on it can help stop algal growth and the water from overheating.
