richms
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story ... D=10402976 interesting that they would use something so high for office lighting, and they picture t5's so this could spell something good... 5 ukp tubes
sharronpaul
We played with the fluros in our office a little while back, went from 840 tubes (cool white?) to 865 tubes (daylight - 10000k?) to 965 tubes (a purple colour - guess around 14-16k). A 50/50 combination of 865 and 965 works best for us.
TM
You can get osram 865 (6500k) and now osram 880 (sky white 8000k) The only t5s i have seen are the osram 865 which are 6500k, they do not make a higher k bulb. Not sure on other companys though.
shiuh
hiya...sorry might be out of topic....correct me if i am wrong. it is better for plant growth if the K value is higher?
Dasher
hiya...sorry might be out of topic....correct me if i am wrong. it is better for plant growth if the K value is higher? No the 6500 Kelvin is the frequency close to general sun light - so this is the type to go for if growing plants - 14000K is better for Marine etc. The Wattage is an indication of brightness or intensity, however a better indication should the the Lumen count. i.e. a light can consume 36Watts of energy but be inefficient in the conversion to light, so wouldnt be as efficient as another brand that consumes the same wattage of power. Lumens are a measure of light intensity. Generally you need to consume more energy to get a brighter light and longer fluoros use more power...... So for a big deep tropical tank you may want to use OSRAM 865 series (6500K) tubes but you may need a lot of them to increase the (Wattage) Lumens getting into the tank and to ensure you get enough light to the bottom. Dasher
Thats weird... it looks and entirely different colour - much more purple. Yeah it is odd - but the Spec Sheet for them says 6500K. Just saw this website found it quite informative. http://ezinearticles.com/?Aquarium-Ligh ... &id=292866
