Krama
when using fresh sea water, is there anything I should do to it, or is it ok to tip straight into the tank? Assuming it is crystal clear at time of collection.
jetskisteve
add 10% filtered freshwater as our NSW (nat sea water) is a bit high in salinity, then just pour it in

cookie extreme
Hmmm... I get 1.018 with the refractometer. From Pacific Beach, Napier. highly unlikely to get 1.018 unless you collect next to a stream running into the ocean. steve is spot on with his advise. i get 1.028 with my refractometer as well, but have never bothered much with thinning it down. Duke
I have just done a NSW water change and for the first time thinned it down after reading this post a day ago.... must do the right thing. Ah but the truth comes out that most people just pour NSW stright in.... I have alway just added NSW as is. Never had a problem.
