Since he's been in, he's inhaled two zebra danios and one juvenile krib :bounce: Happy dance....... Happy dance...... I might have to come have a look one day, watch it eat Went on a mission to aucks today to get him, real nice owners he had. Yep, he's in the lounge - all the other inhabitants of the tank have been evicted...... need another tank for them, might put it on the table where all the gear is in the entranceway. Come and have a look, and we can feed him some danios........

sharronpaul
Okay, so now that I've fed him, how often do I feed him? Can surf the net, but would rather ask you guys. I guess if theres always feeders in the tank, he won't overeat, but I'm not keen for him to grow in too much of a hurry.
candy
u will want to be feeding him thing other then feeders as well ..as a baby we fed once a day then once he hit about 30 cm every seccond day.... lol expensive fish to feed i can tell u that
sharronpaul
What else would you suggest we feed... we have a good supply of feeders, might be able to get him something else tho if it'll help him.
candy
our boy get arowana pellets (comes in a red and white bag with aro on it) they are good for color enhancing and also give him ruffage and isa stable diet. on top of that he get choped up mussle and whole shrimp... when he was smaller we fed him earth worms and other bugs bought from hollywood plus the pellets and the odd feeder too if feeding feeders i would definatly breed your own as shop bought cheep fish could be ill or have other nastys u dont want to pass on to your arow... its important in introduce other food at a young age so they dont become dependent on live food .belive me we have been there and it sucked, expecialy when we could not get any feeders and he would not eat anything elce. plus its important for them to have a stable diet and not have to menay high fat or high proten foods. our boy gets a handfull of pellets and a cup of shrip at each feeding (he is two foot long) and gets fed 5 out of 7 days at least
A.PROPHECY
i feed my aro around 3 times a day once in the morning befor school with pellets then around 5pm he gets more pellets and at about 9pm he gets shrimp choped up and beefheart im power feeding him at the moment til he hits a foot long i do water changes every second day aswel
sharn
seems frozen shrimp are a fav among aros from what ive read. im sure theres a home made recipe tailor made for aros too if your into messing up the kitchen  i agree with the feeder thing, aros are notorious for getting stuck on them and ive been reading up on the nutritonal benefits of them lately (just cause i had to help a girl recently whos O got sick from feeders). this is one part i found most interesting- Certain fish used broadly as feeders are also high in thiaminaise (spelling is objective) which when ingested seem to prevent the absorption of other essential nutrients such as vitamin D as well as some minerals, creating a direct link to nutritional deficiencies, immune system deficiencies and less than ideal growth, and even potential abnormal growth (much less likely but still possible). ive heard about those aro pellets and theyd make a good staple if you could find them (are they hikari ones?). hes a good excuse for a massive tank too aye (wink wink, nudge nudge). you guys could put him in your foyer (sp), im sure he would make a neat 'welcome fish'
sharronpaul
We were thinking of putting him in the foyer, but that would have to wait until we get a tank made specially for him. Thanks for your advise re the feeders. He's on a diet of danios at the mo, I wonder where locally I would find the pellets, or does someone sell them on TM? but yes, great excuse for a big tank! evil_elmo
how do you guys feed frozen shrimp? i've been told that you need to de-frost, cut in small bits but once its de-frosted it doenst float anymore. Do you guys hand feed?
candy
just put the shrimps under some hot water till defrosted.. ur fish will soon learn to snap them up as they sink and our even gets them off the bottom of the tank... hand feeding is good fun. ive heard about those aro pellets and theyd make a good staple if you could find them (are they hikari ones?). yes they are the hikari ones... mostof my local fish shops and pet shops have them or are able tot get them in..have a look on trademe .. sharronpaul
Okay... so he's now got some pellets (sorry Ballistic  ) He *loves* them, and will eat as many as he is given. Will only need the odd feeder now for the exercise of chasing them.
sharronpaul
(slaps oneself in forehead) Thought it was him that I outbid - but it was blazic. Sorry!
David R
He *loves* them, and will eat as many as he is given. Will only need the odd feeder now for the exercise of chasing them. I'd cut out the feeders all together. They don't need to eat live fish, and there's better things to feed them. AFAIK feeders can be quite fatty, so the exercise he gets chasing them might be like jogging to McDonalds for a quarter pounder and large thickshake.... candy
poor fat fish ... try feeding him peas... u can normaly trick them in to eating them and then they pull funny faces
sharn
sort of like *evil stare and spits out peas* 'what the heck are you feeding me them for you idiot, i dont want peas i want expensive prawns' ??
sharronpaul
ROTFL I get evil enough stares when i haven't fed him - I think if I fed him peas, if looks could kill i'd be dead. AFAIK feeders can be quite fatty, so the exercise he gets chasing them might be like jogging to McDonalds for a quarter pounder and large thickshake.... But McDonalds thickshakes are nice! As a treat feeders would be okay I guess. He has 3 feeders in the tank with him, and hasn't touched a single one since we started the pellets. Before then, it was one every second day or so. I'll leave it up to him, and if they're not gone in the next few days, I'll take them out. And maybe try a pea
