medulla
Hi I was told by Jansens Glenfield that they can no longer get the lead ties for weighing down plants. Are these no longer available in NZ? If so, why? What alternatives are there? I have a plecostomous that is always disrupting the plants so I can't not use a weight of some sort. Cheers
Warren
Or you can buy some lead flashing from a scrap metal yard. They usually charge about $4.00 for a kilo but you won't need that much. It comes as flat sheet 1.5-2mm thick. All you need to do is clean it a bit and cut it into strips with scissors... alanmin4304
When I was selling aquatic plants to the pet shops they wanted them with weights to display them better in their tanks. I used to buy the flashing that Warren refers to from a scrap metal yard. I was getting small rolls of brand new stuff that they set aside for me. I still have some if you cannot source it locally I can sell you a bit, but it will be a lot cheaper if you can get it locally as it weighs a lot (HEAVY AS LEAD)
Warren
Yeah, good offer. You can sometimes get it brand new from hardware stores but you'll probably need to buy a roll. Considering the amount required I'd take Alanmin up on the offer, freight won't cost much even if you get 0.5kg of the stuff...
