jn1
Hi all, I'm treating some fish in a plastic tub with no filter or aeration. I don't have a pump and was wondering if those cheap oxygen shells from the shops would help? I'm planning on dosing with some 'wunder cure'. They're currently getting some Furan and seem ok. One fish has an ulcer and the other 2 have blood streaks in their tails. They got 1 capsule furan in 40L of water, a second capsule yesterday, will leave them for 1 more day before changing water and adding carbon. In a few more days I'll add some wunder cure cause I think they might have had whitespot or some other parasite. Any advice? Will the oxy shells help or will they react with the medications? sharn
i think oxy shells really dont do much except bubble a bit when they go in  i read on the back of one pack it was made of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda pretty much) and that just makes your ph more stable/may increase it *shrugs* no chance you can buy a small airpump for like 10 bucks with a piece of hose (like 50c-$1) and an airstone (80c normally)? if your in no hurry tradme might have some bargains? alanmin4304
If it is bicarbonate of soda it will be putting CO2 into the water in acid conditions. This is the opposite of what you want. A pinch of baking soda would be cheaper but no better for the fish.
fishboi
IMO oxyshells do work [no idea how] but when i am busy and forgets to clean the filter which slows the water flow and stops pumping bubbles been such a crowded tank at the moment some fish starts gasping for air and i'll drop an oxyshell in [cuz i have to go to work] and by the time i am back they're all fine.
