    Carbon

Normally only cheap carbon will add phosphates, Even some of the more exxpensive ones add a small amount.

    True or False

No sure as the hobby has really changed in the last 3-4 years, so more info around. All i can say is that you will be lucky to find many people currently that have been keeping marines for more than 5 years. Why would a tank crash, unless someone stuffed up. you cant avoid power cuts, glass cracking etc

Skimmer systems due seem to have more margin for error than MM . However it is all untested in NZ , so i will be able to find out soon. Keeping gonaopora is not problem at all, my 3 are going very well, i think it is more a myth that you cant keep them long term.. It comes down to the species?. I agree some are very hard to keep. but so far i have had no problems at all.

    WHat about the skimmer IRA??

Can’t say that is very logical at all. If that was the case then The number of tanks using zeovit and the number of breathtaking tanks not using it.. So by that logic, you shouldn’t use zeovit. I think it is more common sense that MM is another option, just like zeovit? All systems have their pluses and minuses. MM is very attractive to me as it is a very natural way to filter a tank, so you don’t have to add chemicals etc to reduce po4 and nitrate, plus you have a lot more life in the tank. One of the most important parts in a successful tank is the biological filtration. Like all systems it is only as good as the experience of the hobbyist. Just because you have a big skimmer, does not guarantee that you will have a successful tank, it comes down to many factors , with experience playing a big part. I still believe skimming is very important, and i would have been the first in NZ to overskim and recommend big skimmers, but feel that MM is an option as it has other benefits over skimming; however Skimming also has benefits over MM. Maybe both work well together, I will find out over the next 6 months.

Not really a problem to have some leathers with SPS coral. if you have too many leather then they will stop the acros from growing.
  7. you mean the tank section. sure can.. but make sure that they are 600x400 size. not any bigger. as this is the limit.

Here is a link of a successful MM tank. Yep, high fish load with no skimmer. The english is not the best with the translation, but you will get the idea. I would love to keep those anthias. http://216.239.37.104/translate_c?hl=en&u=http://www.korallenriff.de/markus_resch04.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.miraclemud.de/mainindex.html%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG

  12. Wasp, Be nice just to get all the tanks up to see what the specs are and too see how they change over the year.
  13. I noticed that we only have two reef tanks on the saltwater fish tank section. Be nice to have more tanks as i understand there will be a Tank of the month preview to start soon. Here is the section to put your tanks. Follow the headings from the REEF TANK AUCKLAND http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewforum.php?f=30&sid=fb4ac90bba0859beb595c5951c29c095
  14. It does work , however it my not be whitespot. I would remove the fish and treat with copper.

    ZEOVIT

can you give us some background? do you use di or ro how often do you feed The other thing to sonsider is that you phostphate has been high for some time so the rocks would have absorbed a lot of phostphate, so it will take time to remove it.

    ZEOVIT

sorry, i thought i had a smiley face next to my comment, And i am not saying there is anything wrong with your water quality, nitrate is almost below 10ppm which is fine for a leather tank and phostphates are a bit high , i consider under 1ppm for a soft coral tank to be ok.

    Tunzes Streams

fay, No problems. a second smaller stream can be run of the same controller. the small stream is the 6000 model, 7000L p/hour, which can be reduced at the blue box if required

    ZEOVIT

Fay, i was just having you on. I have no idea why you anemoe split. there are lots of reason why they split. one reason that anemoes split is due to stress, I have had fellow hobbyist change tanks and the following day the anemoe split. Here is a article that also thinks that one of the reasons they might have split is due too stress, http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marine/inverts/cnidaria/anthozoa/bubbletipanemones.htm

    Calcium Levels

i think the test kit is wrong as you cant get calcium of 620ppm and a kh of 9 as both calcium and kh will always balance out, so if kh is high then calcium would be low, if calcicum is high then kh is low. but 9kh is great.

SORRY SKUZZA , I misread you statement , i though you were having me on. as if you did not believe i had a regal in my tank. i have edited my reply a bit

    Miracle Mud

Thats very nice that it sparkles, Just want to see the before and after photos, to see how they have grown with zeovit. if you look through the posts you will see him. The regal is very shy so he will stay behind the rocks, i will post another photo when i can get a good shot.
