    dkH and Ca

I've just done a water test for dkH and CA, 8dkH 700 ppm CA The Calcium seems to be very high. Is this ok? I think the dkH is about right. Cheers.

    Wow

    Yeah, WOW.
  3. Hey Hazy, did you know you had a male and a female? Or was it luck?
  4. Hi Guys, I've got a new addition after the disappearance of my purple firefish. Got this for my birthday yesterday My wife and kids bought this for me. My wife almost choked at the price! $96.00 at HFF. Bangaii Cardinal. Still a baby at around 40mm long. Picture was taken while the fish was still in the plastic bag.
  5. And I'm inbetween them both! But thursday is a work day for me too so won't be back till evening, but hopefully can leave work earlier so maybe back at around 5pm.
  6. I've definately looked around inside and out today and can't find it. It's just fascinating how a fish could be there one day and overnight disappear I'm sure the bristleworms just have a hoe down whenever they can and maybe while the fish is sleeping they attack! When Bristleworms Go Bad
  7. These guys have been working very hard recently so I thought they deserve some recognition.... The Male Bristlenoses.... The offsprings...
  8. Here's a close up shot of the flower... also I thought I would show a pic of my two male bristlenoses who have been working very hard lately
  9. Have been looking at my tank today and there is no Purple Firefish! It looked happy enough yesterday, and today gone! I recently got a new 35mm macro lens for my E-300 so here are some passing shots of my Firefish. May you RIP. and here's one of shrimpy... The pics were only cropped or reduced to 800x600. No other alteration was done.
  10. If you have a look at my full tank pic, this flower is from the plant on the front right. The front centre plant is the same as the flowering one, but is bigger in size. The one on the left is the new one I bought with the really tall plant at the centre back.
  11. I'm sure they were selling them as anubias. I've had two of these for well over 8 months, and recently purchased another one thinking it was another plant. They're not that big in size. Probably around two fists size.
  12. Thanks Wasp for the tip. Do you recon I can kill all the bubble algae I have using boiling water via turkey baster?
  13. I did buy it from HFF as an aquatic plant so I expect it to be fine.
  14. Hi Folks, I have another thing that has been growing stedily, it's the black soft coral type thing but don't know whether it is safe to keep or whether I should get rid of it. Your help is appreciated
  15. Ditto for me and I've got a small tank compared to everyone else.

    Camera Choice

I second Tom's suggestion. If you can afford a DSLR the get one of the two listed. I have an Olympus E-300, just bought a 35mm macro. Still playing around with pictures using this macro lens, but what I've found is that there are not many lenses you can purchase for the Olympus - and the lenses are really expensive! At least with Nikon and Canon, there are a huge amount of lenses available and you can get reasonably priced ones too. Don't get me wrong, I love the Olympus camera, but at this stage with no 3rd party lens makers of the 4/3rds lenses, it makes Olympus lenses more expensive.
  17. Yes, sure did, that's why I was a bit worried as I've never seen an aquatic plant flower underwater. Looks like a mini lily. Just in time for Xmas!
  18. Woo hoo... good to know. My pump broke down for a week and had no filtering so now it's been 2 weeks with it back on and I bought a UV steriliser and it has helped in making the water crystal clear. Cheers.
  19. Hi folks, I haven't posted anything in the freshwater before. Mostly in the Saltwater forum, but here's a shot of my tank as of last night. This plant is flowering in my tank! Can anyone let me know whether it is safe? It does look quite cool in there. Many thanks
  20. That's an excellent book. I have a copy. Highly recommend.
  21. Thanks Evil. Quite hard to get nice tall rock for a small tank.
  22. Some SERIOUSLY nice tanks here guys! Good on ya all. I couldn't put up any photos till now since I'm busy getting the painting done in 3 rooms before Xmas! Here's my semi-nano tank... That thing up the top is my feeding ring where I put the food in and it slowly drops down. Saves switching off the pumps and having the floating food go down the skimmer. Taken about 10 minutes ago. P.S. notice the Ast. Snail on top of my Yellow Porite. It thinks its on the king of the castle.
