  1. if it is in that tank i would have also infected the large community tank too that has over 100 fish in it
  2. Late last week i brought a pair of convicts from the local pet store, the ones i have appear to be happy healthy and settled in well. I was there thismorning on another matter, looked at the stock they had left in the tank and pointe out that they were covered in spots, a couple of the fish looked nearly dead, the assistant treated the tank there and then , thanked me for pointing it out and told me that all tanks carry the white spot bug , and mine wont get it. I dont know that i believe what i was told , what is the incubation period, are mine likely to be infected and not yet showing the spots some knowlageable advice from someone not out to make a dollar from me would be appreciated
  3. these 2 keyholes were the biggest fish in the community tank and went into the cichlid tank with the same attitude , the have "small man's syndrome " im sure.
  4. Allen the name the guy at the fish shop wrote on a piece of paper for me is Firehead Cichlid - Vieja Synspilum - will grow 35 > 40 cm max from centeral america i have a couple of photos i can email them to you if you like
  5. :-? My female cunning talked my other half into letting me buy a "hospital " tank, only its 1200-450-450, so im now attempting to keep cichlids! i have in there 5 scrawny neons( possible live bait) 1 small rummy nose 2 zebra danios (all live bait in reality) a pair of key holes a pair of convicts and a pair of fire heads. the keyholes, although the smallest, seem to rule the tank, very aggro wee fishies. With the size of the tank and whats already in there what suggestions are there for additions?
  6. After having a number (30 or so ) of my wee fishies drop dead I really struggled to get good advice in the tga area as to what the cause was and how to fix it I am fortunate that family was knowlageable and the problem has improved finding support here is hard and there is very limited contact that is accessable to the beginner in this area

  9. As you can tell IM brand new to this site, Being a dopy truck driver im not to quick with the computer either. I brought a bullet tank in about october last year and that was the start of it all over again. It was decided it would be a community tank with lots of schools of very small colourful fish. well as you all will know one is never enough. A couple of weeks ago I managed to talk Trav into a "hospital" tank for sick fishies  it has now become my cichlid tank containing a pair of fireheads a pair of keyholes and a pair of convicts, the keyholes rule the tank which is 1200-450-450. i am keen to learn heaps more about them and join a club in the tauranga area
