i have an empty tank in the house, it is cycled, the guppys were in it till i moved them into the 1200-450-450, which they are making a good job of filling. its only a tiny tank, the one that was next to the computer, but i would like something unusual in there, it just dosnt look right empty. all suggestions will be greatfully appreciated

he is beautiful, do you think he would like some baby cons as tank mates :evil:

thats what i thought about oscar too, the little buggers escaped and there is a community of escaped convicts living at the bottom of the big tank. no police man to get rid of them, once something goes in the big tank its there forever, cant reach to catch them

what size is your redheaded cichlid, i have a pair of them in the 6' tank and dont know much about them. lovely tank

not sure alan, was on the way home from work the last time i was in adelaide it was freezing, a lot colder than tauranga i hope the little guys do well in the pond, it was give them a try there or feed them to oscar. they are doing well for now, will see how they get on

was at dads on the way home from work, ive not seen the cons that fat since they were fry and had huge pink brine shrimp bellys. the mozzies are in trouble now they seem to be coping fine in the pond at the moment will keep you updated

as you can see, concrete floor, well built tank, and it is begining to look awesome. this photo is a couple of weeks old now, it is looking much better today

are they the same as a texas cichlid?

dad has no other fish in there, released them thismorning, thought they might freek out a little, when i had a look they were getting rid of dads mozzie problem. it was a choice of release them in the pond or feed them to oscar, if i was a fish i know which i would prefer, will keep you posted as to how they do over the winter

as i have plenty to go round, and the little buggers were in cold water till very recently, i have decided to release the rest of the baby cons into dads fish pond. Tauranga has a mild winter, no ice or anything like that, do you guys think they will suvive god help the neighbours cat if they spawn in there, he could loose a toe or two :lol:

one or two of the baby cons are starting to chase the baby guppys, might be time to introduce the baby cons to mr oscar :evil:

as usual i paniced, lowered the thermostat immediatly to 26, being a small tank the temp dropped quick, 2 days( or 3 ive lost count) more baby guppies, no white spots no dead fish :oops: i think i was lucky this time

since i had so many babys in a cold tank of water i thought id better do the right thing and give them some heat............the origional temp( when i finally put a thermometer in the tank) was 16 degrees. so in went the heater, well i sat looking at the forum trying to learn about these cute little fellas, looked at the thermometer again.......36 degrees, if they dont get sick outta this lot they must be hardy little buggers, all look ok tonight so i may have got away with my little error :oops:

i definataly understand that, yesterday i was the proud mummy of 5 new guppies, today im the weary grandma of hundreds of little black eyed specks lol

i set up my computer tank yesterday, still has a few baby cons left in it, but put 3 female and 2 male guppys in there. there has been no heater in this tank, the temp is round 22, thismorning ive got baby guppys everywhere. do they breed like flys( or convicts ) or was it just dumb luck :oops:

what sort of size do they become before they are mature

:oops: how do i tell if i have 3 oscars or 3 oscetts. i would like to know if i have boys or girls and how to tell them apart

:roll: well, i have this wee tank which currently has baby cons in it sitting on the floor in the lounge, was origionally my marine tank( brine shrimp) and im thinking maybe guppys, its not a big tank, about 15ltrs, already cycled, thinking it would look really good next to the puter, any suggestions? Travis said NO MORE FISH TANKS but its not another one, and he dosnt use the puter room :lol:
