  2. Thanks everyone for your replies...yes there is more than a sponge in the tank...thought the whole filter was best lol. I had a reply to a post I put on the dwrf puffer forum in the US and he suggested 2 week minimum...I think I may compromise and try it after a week (the tank its in is well established) and I'll keep a good eye on the water params. Anyone wanting to find out abit about dwarf puffers this is a great site! www.dwarfpuffer.com (Sorry not sure how to make this a live link) Cheers and thanks for your help.
  3. Can anybody tell me how long it takes to condition a new sponge filter by putting it into an existing tank setup?? I have discovered the filter I was running in the puffer tank is too strong for them. Blowing them allover the place....poor little chaps have been lying in the plants for shelter. I started conditioning a small shark filter in one of the other tanks yesterday and am wondering when it will have a good bio lode so I can transfer it over.... Any ideas? Cheers
  4. Yay...go Daddy bristle! Hopefully he'll see the eggs right! Cheers

    Dwarf puffers

Hi there! Does anyone keep dwarf puffers at the moment? Have just setup a special tank 27L with some and was interested in any experiences that people might share.... Cheers
  6. Sorry to hear of your problem with the guppies...that tank was looking stunning. Hope you get on top of the problem soonest. Cheers
  7. Like a few other fish keepers I have had a mild growth of Black Brush Algae. It is starting to die off (have been treating with Flourish xl) and was thinking of getting some SAE's to help out. LFS's refer to blackline flying foxes as SAE's...is this correct?? Have also read that SAE's can be commonly confused with other fish. I'm confused and before I go out and buy a couple was hoping for some good advise.....
  8. Thanks everyone for your replies. You've been very helpful. Gave it a good look yesterday...o-ring fine, parts alittle dirty but again look ok but... the spraybar had several blocked outlets...gave that a brush and everything quiet again. So I guess it must have been the extra pressure on the system from the blockages that was causing the noise. Cheers and have agood weekend.
  9. Thnx Plecs will give that a try. Appreciate your quick response. Cheers
  10. This pump was always very quiet...but in the last couple of days it is making quite abit more noise. Can anything be done to quieten it?? Or is this terminal.....
  11. Thx FG I am having similar thoughts at this stage
  12. The setup is 100L tank with a Ehiem 2213 external filter, aerated. Have 3 yoyo loach, 10 cherry barbs, 2 angels and a bristlenose at moment in well planted set, drftwood x 1, schist rockx3. Did have quite a few sm snails but loaches have dealt to them! Water quality tests pH, ammonia, 'trate and 'trite are all good as of this morning. Hollywoods suggested that gravel was very dirty  and to clean it once a week until worms gone. Any other ideas?? Do I need to treat and what with?? Cheers
  13. Hi I'm new here and to aquarium keeping, hope someone can tell me whether this is a problem or just part of furniture.... I have just cleaned gravel in tank (tropical) with a siphon thingy and noticed that several thin red worms were sucked up along with the gunk. Fish are in great health(no worms hanging out anywhere).
