  1. Using the calclulator I think I should go with 15mm glass. Proposed tank is 800L, 750H, 400W What sort of glass should I use?
  2. Thanks, I have one coming around to fix a window tommorow, I may give him my plans for a quote. Cheers
  3. Thanks what you said is what I meant I think. Imagine a birds eye view of the tank, to get what I was trying to say. I was abit worried the tank is to tall. I have read various articles, which mention tank should be no more than half the lengh high.
  4. I am thinking of building my own Aquarium out of 10mm glass Dimensions are 800 Long 400 deep 750 high. Plan on bracing horizontal at front and back and vertical at ends and middle. Any thoughts
  5. Would you reccomend any other fish than clowns? Can any marine tropicals handle 20c water? I am a newbie to saltwater..
  6. I was at the petshop at Kapti today discussing my seahorses with the shop keeper. He suggested that I should consider razing the temp of my tank from 18c to 21c and adding a pair of clownfish. The seahorses should tolerate this temperature but would the clownfish? Got me thinking of adding a tropical marine fish to brighten my tank.. Does any one have any other species to recommend? I want to keep the tank as close to 20c as possible.
  7. I have had goood success with crushing them, the fish would then get a taste for them and start feeding on them.
  8. You can also buy undersized paua and crayfish legally from the seahorse farm in Napier. http://www.theseahorsefarm.co.nz/sales_info2.html
  9. I've got them with Bettas, Gouami,Congo Tectra, Rainbowfish and a Red Red Spot plec. They seem pretty peaceful and get along with everyone. They are good at keeping algae down of plants as well as glass. Sombody once told me you should have one for each foot of length your tank plus one extra.
  10. This maybe a silly question but would there be any merit in using a supplement like flourish to aid seaweed growth In a coldwater marine tank? If not has anybody used something else?
  11. Thanks Sehorsemad for your comments, intresting about the temp The seahorse farm told me they tolarated 10 to 21 degrees but the ideal is 15 to 18.
  12. Wellington, tank is in a downstairs room with no direct sunlight so I think I should be OK.
  13. Hi all. I am setting up a native marine tank to house seahorses which I will purchase from "the seahorse farm" in Napier. The tank is 70 liter vertical, Temp of 15 degress, running an external filter whose outflow is directed at the glass to reduce the current. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with this and could tell me some of the things to watch out for. Thanks
