  12. Hi all, Could anybody tell me how long should it take for discus to reach their maximum size? Also how big should they be after one year? Thanks
  13. Cool thanks I'll get some on my way home...
  14. Ok, I am fairly sure that three of my 5 discus are showing signs of white spot. I have increased the temp from 28c to around 31c. I have plants in my tank so am not to keen on using salt. Can anybody suggest any products I should use that should be relatively safe for my discus or should I just wait it out with the slightly higher temp?
  15. This maybe a competently stupid thought but…. Would my new assumption that "marine lights" 10000 - 20000k are really only required in marine tanks for coral and invertebrates? So if you were trying to grow seaweed in a marine tank you would probably be better with similar lights to freshwater ie 6500k? Thanks
  16. I’ve had seahorses (pot bellies) since September last year. I don’t have a chiller or a skimmer. Tank temp only got up to 24 over summer which isn’t really a good advertisement for Wellington weather I suppose. But the room the tank is in does not get any sunlight. Best advice is to allow 3 months for the tank to cycle properly and carefully monitor the PH.
  17. Assume because increased oxygen. I was surprised I had been using flourish periodicaly but plants still weren't thriving. However they are now.
  18. I put a powerhead in my freshwater tank. Made a huge diffrence to my plant growth...
  19. http://www.niwa.co.nz/rc/freshwater/fis ... /other.htm Of interest..
  20. Try the Seahorse farm for native coldwater fish. http://www.theseahorsefarm.co.nz/sales_ ... freshwater.
  21. Found out seachem also do REEF IODIDE. That sounds like what I want. Thanks for your help guys..
  22. OK I 'e-mailed seahchem; "Could you please tell me if any of your Flourish products would be suitable for promoting growth of seaweed in a saltwater aquarium? This is not a reef tank, no corals.." Reply is: "It would not be unsuitable, but we've never tried it in this application so we couldn't guarantee positive results although there is no reason to expect any negative results." Anybody have any thoughts? --
