  1. Good on you for upgrading your tank -- I'm very jealous as I only have the 60cm Exoterra and saw the 90 in a store a few weeks ago, the design is just awesome for frogs. For a waterfall I'd investigate maybe making a DIY background out of polystyrene etc and have a tube that goes from a little pump (can get fountain ones for ponds) in your water area that goes up and then cascades down over whatever structure you design with your background. I've been meaning to do it with my tank but never seem to have enough time as for dividers, I've got gravel piled behind a wall of rocks that I've stacked together to form a barrier so the gravel can't get into the water area. It allows the plants I plant in the gravel area to grow somewhat like in a riparium setup though. If I was to do a larger tank I would probably silicone down a plastic divider and then disguise it with rocks siliconed to the outside-- I saw somewhere that someone had used pumice as it could be sawed which was an interesting idea. As for having minnows in your water area, I have no idea how the frogs would react to that-- have seen someone with a setup with minnows and frogs together but wouldnt personally trust the frogs around small edible moving items--but just make sure the filter is cycled before adding any fish as otherwise they will have a hard time with ammonia building up.
  2. Welcome it sounds like you already have quite the collection! Very cool to hear that you are trying to get some good lines of guppies going too, Moscows look gorgeous my younger brother has snakeskins, reds and imported 'purple mosaic' guppies. Also great to hear that you also have gotten into the hobby! I am yet to convince my partner of how amazing fish keeping can be What sort of plants are you starting to grow? I always seem to have a couple of plants drifting around in my fry grow outs and am happy to send some if it's wanted-- other fishkeepers did the same for me when I was new to aquatic plants
  3. I've seen them in Palmers and Kings a few times, though quite expensive at both plus they weren't listed as either pathos or Devils ivy but I knew it was the right stuff due to the leaf shape and googling of the name on the tag (which I've now forgotten :/) I used to have quite a bit, but unfortunately not at the moment, otherwise I would have been more than happy to send out a vine

    Hey, new here

Welcome it sounds like you're well on your way to having a bit of a collection of tanks :3 it only gets more addictive the more you learn always happy to meet another frog keeper too What kind of tropicals were you thinking of getting?
  5. Personally I havent had experience with those plants in a frog tank. They could work due to ferns generally preferring lower light and higher humidity than the average plant, however my main thought is that the frogs would probably squash them lol. I have two Southern bells which get to a similar size and they have destroyed a number of plants simply by virtue of bouncing on them more than the plant can handle That said it could be worth trying it out as it could work, just view them as 'experiments' to see what works well in with your bubs In my tank I have found that peace lily, acorus grass, syngonium, parlor palm and pothos tend to do really well one of my boys tends to love sunbathing from the leaves of the peace lily :3 I'm always on the look out for new plants to try, I have a longer list of things that havent worked than of things that do lol
  6. Video of them all swimming round :3
  7. I'd just make it tropical and put a single fighter in there
  8. Aaaah ehiems are apparently awesome too :3 very nice move on the 406, it's a good size for the size tank you want and if it works that's a huge bargain post updates, it's awesome to see what other people do with their tanks :3
  9. Welcome! Personally Sunsun wouldn't be my first choice-- they're easy on the budget but I'm yet to hear anything good about them over other filters apart from that. My understanding of the UV is that it runs full time tho could be wrong there. It also only seems to clear up green water which can be solved other ways so personally wouldn't see it as a particularly useful feature of a filter. I have a 200L which runs off a Fluval 306 and an Aquis 1200. The Fluval was twice the price but I like it twice as much as the Aquis its much easier to start and set up the input and output hoses are nicer, and it's easier to clean and is quieter. Aquis isn't a bad filter tho and I'm happier for having it than I was with just a Fluval as it means I have a backup in case one goes kaput as well as a heap of room for biomedia to grow so would personally recommend the fluval because despite being pricier, it's much much nicer in the long run I'll have a look at the YouTube link later, on data atm lol. Last I saw HFF had CTCs in Stock, so I'm sure you'll be able to find one wherever you're based I'm currently in a state of getting ready to move, so know the feeling lol. Bit nervous but I've compacted myself down to two tanks (well.. And a frog tank so 3 but it's not technically a fish tank :P) and will just give myself a day to specifically move the tanks with my fingers crossed that all goes smoothly. I've just got a 200L and a 60L tho Tetra... Really depends on what type you're into. I'd straight up avoid neons (Cardinals look similar without most of the problems if you really want a red and blue fish) but would say go into a fish shop, see what catches your eye, then go home and research what it needs and how it fits with the rest of the tank inhabitants. I don't know much about CTCs but make sure you don't end up with a small tetra that could be eaten, or a nippy tetra that could hurt the other fish, or one that requires a higher temp or something maybe look into some danios and rasbora too, as some of those can be very pretty :3
  10. The babies looking good this morning :3 amazing how fast they grow
  11. Thanks alienara, hopefully I get a good survival rate with these guys I'm hoping to have at least some of them to increase my shoal numbers, but as I've already got 21 sterbai in my 200 litre, I'm probably going to sell some of the babies (at what point do I have too may corys lol...), so definitely keep an eye out
  12. I did see you had at least 4 in there These guys are growing *wipes nervous sweat from brow* I've got them on green water and small amounts of 'Wardley shrimp pellet' - - it's the stuff I've got that crumbles away to nothing best They /love/ hiding under the IAL leaves I've got in there-- disturb the leaves and a whole heap of them will shoot away into other nooks of the tank. Managed to get a photo of one, have had a good survival rate so far it looks like
  13. Aaaah the leucistic ones are so cool :3 mine are both male and were both croaking pretty much non stop up until 2 weeks ago, thinks the weather has changed enough for them to calm down a bit here Looking forward to seeing photos :3
  14. What kind of frog do you keep? I have two Southern bells myself Post pics when the tank is set up-- I've never seen elephant noses in real life but they seem really cool
  15. Yeah definitely, corys keep to themselves and I'm yet to see any of mine give other fish trouble. I have my group in a 200L with an angel pair/couple of oddballs/group of 20 harlequins. So long as you have decent filtration and do weekly water changes (they /love/ glass surfing right after a water change) it would be fine pic is a couple of mine during feeding time, they're great goofs to watch
  16. From what I've read angels and discus, particularly in tanks that aren't /massive/, do not mix well and there can be some sort of disease spread between the two so it's often advised not to keep them together. Better to have one or the other also corys like to be with their own species (and each type is a different species) so having at least 6 of say 1-3 different species would be a good idea rather than 1-2 each of 8 species .. Personally I like my battalion of 20 sterbai but variety can also be nice
  17. Yeah I like banjos too but haven't gotten them before mainly for the dissappear-for-ages thing I tend to like fish that come up to the glass when they see me (one exception is my spiny eel lol). Best of luck for the tank
  18. 270L...I would have a nice number of bottom dwellers eg sterbai or panda Corydoras, or something in the loaches department like dwarf chains, have about 6 good looking angels (silvers, platinum and Philippean Blues), have a good number of 2 different types of shoalers, probably harlequin rasbora and glow light danios, then 2 or so fancy plecos in for good measure-- probs blue phantom and queen abaresque tho L140 is also nice. All with a hardscape of a nice piece of driftwood, probably spider root, covered in needle leaf java fern. OR a species only brackish tank with a few figure 8 puffers, with a 'mangrove forest' sort of feel to the scape. OR something that revolves around African butterfly fish, upside down catfish and Congo tetra
  19. Very nice and glad to hear you have plans for where both fish will end up RTS's are awesome It really depends what you are into-- personally I would stock it with a trio (1 m 2f) of dwarf honey gourami, OR a pair of German blue rams, cover the bottom in Ottos or panda corydoras and then have a smaller shoaler eg emerald eyes, ember tetra, dwarf spotted danios, or celestial pearl danios as the mid level swimmer-- danios in particular are nice and active. If you wanted you could put an oddball type fish in there you could go species only Bumblebee goby (could have 6+) or dwarf puffer set up (could have 3+ in a 50L) OR you could just add a cute fish like banjo catfish (1-2) or hara jerdoni (3 or so) that would mooch around in the sand and appear every now and again. Or you could go for some quieter small gourami/dwarf cichlids eg chocolate or samurai gourami (6+) or some sort of apistos (a pair), but would have to go with the quieter end of other fish to put with them (so some of the quieter shoalers eg emerald eyes, ember tetra).
  20. Spawn date 14th February, free swimming 18th February, assuming that I have at least 10 left at 30 days I'll be talking to the breeding coordinator on the 18th March It's diaried but keeping notes like this seems to work well for me too.
  21. First day out and about and a bunch of them have ended up around the base of the sponge filter
  22. These guys spawned a few days ago on Valentines day I originally bought near 20 of them from Alexyay which she had bred, then the breeding quartet they came from off her, then another two I got off another member of the forum. The main female who was producing all the eggs seems to have been the female of the two I got from another member, but there were an awful lot of small males chasing after her so hoping for a nice bit of diversity in the group. I basically sat in front of my tank for 4 hours watching where she laid the eggs (I know, what a great way to spend the day ), then quickly rolling them off their spots and transferring them to a spawn tank that had water from the aquarium, a spare heater and a cycled filter from another fry grow out tank. All the eggs were put on a little white porcelain bowl that I will remove later-- was easier to keep track of them and I couldn't be bothered transferring them to some java moss or something... They /just/ hatched today-- 4 days after being laid. All are wee round see through circles with tails, but boy do they love to bounce around the tank and are reactive to light. Learned from my previous attempt at breeding corys and have added in some IAL to hopefully have a good level of tannins in there. Not sure what to feed as of yet but I have a huge amount of greenwater sitting in an old tank that somehow ended up in the garden, so I have that at least Photo of the mumma carrying the eggs around in her ventral fins before placing them on the glass or undersides of leaves and one of her being chased by a male they have such awesome spawning behaviour to watch.
  23. Update on these guys-- the one little guy I did manage to breed is still doing well, numbers have gone down a bit and I lost my biggest female :'( still hoping they may start spawning again this year, but who knows
  24. Also just make sure you have enough driftwood for the BN and some plant cover for the corys and everyone should be happy
