  1. Koura need water temperatures of under 20°C so the only real non-native option would be goldfish which would inevitably have their fins nipped and torn while they're sleeping. They would also need to be bigger than the koura to stand a change of not being killed.

    If you go natives you could have smelt which are spend their life in saltwater but can be caught and kept for a couple of years when they come in to breed and bullies which are extremely similar to triplefins. And you could also catch some small grey mullet which can be good in a tank once they learn to eat flake food.

    Depends on the population, different populations will produce more of one color than another depending on which survive to breed. Occasionally you will see very blue (usually pale) individuals but they are very uncommon due to not being very well camouflaged and getting eaten before reaching maturity.
