God that sucks dosent it. I am really not a fan of hybridizing fish for these reasons. I know sometimes the odd beautiful one pops out but still not sure we have the right to play god so to speak.

Yeah I'm pretty they are one if the cichlids used for flowerhorn. They look to much alike to not be. Such a buggar they are not on the list. What about black belt cichlids have they ever shown face in Nz? Does the import list get reviewed or updated at all?

Just out of interest do we, can we, or have we ever had Trimac Cichlids in NZ?

I do know of a guy that was breeding them in Christchurch just over a year ago. Whether he still is Im not sure.

Those girls are gorgeous! Good to know there is still some out there but new imports would be nice. Would love to know what the cost would be and how to sweet talk the importers to bring more in. I will try and get a pic of my old female who sadly passed away awhile ago I was guttered! She paired up with another female a Nicaragua cichlid of all things. I think the stress of protecting her eggs took its toll and she got white spot. Even though I did rid her of it she passed away a few days later so sadly must of had a secondary infection. I just these guys though. I have a tank put aside just in case I come across more.

Just curious as to who breeds these guys in Nz? Would love some more of these some day but they seem to be pretty rare in Nz and can't work out why as they are quite a pretty fish and don't grow to a large size. Would love to hear from anyone who has some even if they are not breeding them.

Still on the lookout for one of these bad boys. Will consider traveling Auckland, Hamilton, or Rotorua for a nice big guy.

Just wondering if anyone out there has some largish sized Firemouth cichlids they would like to rehome. Really only after one. I have seen lots of babies but never larger. May consider traveling but prefer BOP area.

I stuffed that last message some how bloody computers. That's a fair answer it's unfortunate that others have not followed through with sales and made it harder for the rest who are genuine. I shall remain hopeful and optimistic and maybe they will show face one day just like those rainbow cichlids I'm still holding out for :-)

If the suppliers had them, if the importers thought they would be popular, if the wholesalers would pay the cost for them which is considerable per fish if only a few come in due to the quarantine testing and risk of losing the whole lot if a certain percentage die, all the way down to would the shops buy them at that price right down to whether or not the customer would say 'well I wanted them but I'm not paying that!' Not being negative here and you possibly know this anyway but shops and wholesalers have been stung many times in NZ by customers wanting and then not buying ie zebra plecs.

So I am assuming that they would only be imported if there was a reasonable demand for them? The species I was hoping to find was the L187a Chaetostoma sp.

I'm curious to know whether bulldog plecos are available here in Nz
