  1. Thanks On a brighter note, the butterfly loaches were very playful this morning. Once my car is legal again (wof, finish putting it back together etc) im going to look at a new tank set up.
  2. Yeah, im going to keep a close eye on the pair of "butterfly" ones and see how they go. I just got abit of a scare before as one of them was on the side of the filter inlet (i have had 2 fish stuck up against this and die before) but on investigating this, he was very much alive and is now hiding behind a rock. They are very cool to look at and ive been thinking maybe making a fake waterfall/river set up (two tanks with a ramp type joining piece. Although I would have to run a water pump to make sure that the bottom tank didnt overflow and to cycle the water so im not sure if this is even possible. Maybe i would be best to just have a separate tank with high flow filter/pump just for the suckers.
  3. hey I only have those badge testers at the moment (proper test kit is on the to do list) I cant speak for the last few days but temps have been 17-23 deg and Ph high 7s. replies in my other post recommend high flow current for the suckers so i might have to invest in a new set up for these. I have telescopic eyed goldfish and blackmoar and i think a comet in with them
  4. Ive been away for 4 days and come back to finding my borneo sucker fish (approx 3cm in length) stiff and dull in colour on the bottom of the tank. I got the borneo with the 2 "butterfly suckers" and 1 blackmoar on wednesday. Normal feeding continued with yesterday being a food free day. I know some of you mentioned these were more tropical type fish where as i bought for my fresh water set up after being told it would be ok. Is this something that was always going to happen? Or do is there something wrong with my tank water? The rest of the fish are fine including the 2 other suckers and blackmoar i got from the same supplier. Cheers
  5. Correct. I have a pair of butterflies. And one Borneo. Will look into making the tank more suited for them.
  6. I was planning a carbon fibre moulded into rear bumper exit. I've done the unique thing, my ma61 build required alot of time and custom work. I guess until you do something like that you can appreciate the convenience of off the shelf parts. This is far from finished but at the end of the day I am building this how I want and how I can afford to do so. I realise that there will always be couch critics but they haven't realised that not everyone cares about "street cred" or following trends etc. But I guess that is why I have a built up engine in my garage and not a second hand unknown hand grenade ready to blow.
  7. Well I guess thats what cars look like when being built. I am not sure the technology.is available yet for instant body prep and paint. Exhaust was going to be something abit more unique as im not a fan of the huge cannon style, but I got a varex muffler for a good price so unfortunately for now ill be running that.
  8. Please be gentle on me if im doing things wrong. There is so much conflicting information out there and thats the reason i joined up to this forum. Im open to constructive criticism, and im hoping to enjoy my stay here and learn from people who have much more experience than me. first design obviously changed it a lil Tank 1 Tank 2 Will add as i learn/make changes CHeers
  9. lol, anyone that grabs a jumbuck with glee is someone im wary about ha
  10. ha, cheers Im no stranger to critics lol. But yeah each to their own. The way i look at it, unless they are paying for it or helping, then its not up to them what the finished product is. Unless of course i start putting lambo doors on, external gauges and 24" chromies.
  11. its the s14 facelift conversion. I initially wanted to stay pfl front, but with decent headlights not being readily available the decision was made to go pfl rear with fl front. As per the Ma61 build. Cheers
  12. As mentioned in my introduction, what started this hobby for me was a fish bowl. Is there anyway I can use this for anything without being cruel? I was thinking maybe just a nice setting or a couple of plants. Or is there a fish or type of fish that would be ok? Im able to run a filter in there but just finding something useful and fitting would be good Id rather not turn this hobby starting gift into an oil change pan. Cheers.
  13. Thats a matter of opinion. But thanks.
  14. Ha true. I was hoping to have the engine swap done by now, but plans have changed slightly and i need the car to drive up to auckland soon to sort somethings out. So ive rushed together to get it back in one piece with the facelift stuff. Ill probably sort the bonnet bulge out and then worry about painting it when i get back from auckland. the Car has been neglected while ive been playing with fish stuff.
  15. Thought some people might be interested.. I built up a 1982 toyota celica supra, which then got borrowed and tested for side impact rigidity. engine is going into my new car 1995 Nissan Silvia started off like Is currently like
  16. I like a good pun, so much i entered a local pun contest with 10 of my best. I rang up to see if any had won and i was told no pun in ten did. Thanks for the comments, i have 10 minnows coming and 2 leopards, i was going to divide the minnows and put the 2 leopards together. Yeah the butterfly sucker (what i was told) after a quick google would seem to be a hillstream loach, They come in another week or 2 so hopefully cycling should be okish. I will look into a larger tank, i was thinking of making a perspex one at some point.
  17. Hey My name is Matt and im currently living in central otago and was given a small fish bowl and couple of goldfish as a belated birthday gift last year. Those who know me, will know i dont like doing things by halves so the bowl is now empty and i have 2 60litre tanks. Had several issues which i think im mostly on top of now. I have mostly telescopic eye goldfish, a couple of comets and i have some fish that should be arriving this week and next Minnows, leopard fish, butterfly suckers and blackmoar. Really enjoying this new found passion and even though my main hobby has always been motorsport and automotive stuff, im slowly becoming very fascinated in fish and aquariums. Once im happy with the 2 tanks ive got now, i am hoping to set up a tropical set up or 2. Cheers
