Too broke, for many prezzys this year, it will be family and selected friends only. Of course I'm not too broke to buy myself a 6ft all inclusive :cr11:

She just spat at least 6 fry! I'm so proud! Thought that was a bit early according to my estimated date of conception, but who cares, she is doing well and they are doing well so far! I'm honestly surprised I have got this far Aaaawwww so clucky :happy1:  My fish just got me the most awesome early xmas prezzy :cr10:

Bahaha I don't think he really believes me, I can see it in his eyes... Why would he, I don't really believe myself :sml1:

Ok second tank is set up. I had to reassure my partner that, no it isn't going to get out of hand just because I've got two tanks in as many weeks, it won't be like last time. :slfg:

Well, I was thinking of doing like a combination of what you mentioned. What I have got in the tank at the moment is just a random mix of my old aquarium ornaments in the tank which serve their purpose, but looks weird. I have ordered some coral rock and some BNs which I will be picking up when I got back to the Waikato to see the fam for xmas, once I put the rock in the tank they will all have to sort out their places all over again. So I'm thinking, I will give the subdominant blue (namedHarlequin) a break for a couple of weeks let him heal and feed him real well, then when I put all the new coral rocks in do a water change put the BNs in and reintroduce Harlequin and then see how that goes.

I saw fry in her mouth just before. She seems to be doing ok. I'm going to set up the spare tank and move her in there today hopefully. She is getting a bit annoyed by the other males (having been a pregnant female myself at one stage, I can relate to that :sml1: ). I wouldn't go so far as to she is stressed but I don't want to let it get to that point. What I'm finding more concerning at the moment is that I have 2 male blues and the more dominent one is beating the c*** out of the other one and I'm thinking I'll need to move the subdominant one today I just need to find a spot in my lill 1 bedroom flat with very few power points to set up the other tank.

My boss forwared the email to the other boss who was in the office and said it required disciplinary action, we took another pic of me on my knees and him holding the gun to my head and sent it to her and told her it was sorted. :rotf: I won't post that pic here as it has my other boss in it and may be a little bit over the line lol. Was a good day in the office, we manage to have quite a bit of fun here hehehehehe. Can't wait for our xmas do this weekend we are having a murder mystery party :slfg:

I'm a P/A Legal Secretary in Family Law. This pic was taken today that's me in my boss's office, it was her afternoon off and I sent her that pic and told her there had been a change in Management and not to bother coming back lol Do you think I got fired?

Just another day at the office :sml1:

Thank you so much for all the help, a little over a week after getting the fish I was really unprepared for eggs. I was really shocked to see that they had bred already. I will definitely keep you updated, no doubt I will have more questions along the way
-
Will baby brine shrimp as well as the crushed flakes/pellets be ok for them?
-
Thanks for the link, yes she definitely looks like this. I was able to get a look in her mouth this morning and there are definitely a few eggs in there, I wouldn't say she is full of eggs though. I've had a look at the links now and they are really good, thanks so much everyone. It really is easier to see what someone is talking about. All the different advice is really great, if one thing doesn't work out for me I know what I can try next. In my limited experience, what works for one doesn't always work for another and thier fish. I think I will either just leave her in the main tank and see if she will spit them or move her to her own tank at approximately day 16ish and see if she will spit them in there. If this doesn't work or I am getting concerned about her health I will try stripping her, I may be able to enlist the help of the breeder I got her off if need be. She is about 10cm(ish) so I don't know if this her first brood or not but it sure is my first one :sml2: So my next question is; assuming I do get some little babies out of this, then what? I have a spare tank and will put a couple ornaments in for comfort but do I want a substrate (I only have gravel on hand) or will it be better without whilst they are so small? And what do I feed them?
-
Hey guys thank you so much for all the advice, I haven't had a chance to look at your links yet as I am sneaking a peak at this thread while at work. I believe she may have a couple of eggs in there but not many as I watched them all when feeding the others again this morning. I have kept fish before but not Africans and other than my Angel fish which I bred they were livebearers and needed no help in that department! :sml1: Once I get home from work I'll have a good look at the clips etc. So exciting and I was going to look at breeding the Africans later on I wasn't even sure if I had any females as I just got 6 yellows of various sizes off a local breeder. Whew I guess just like with us humans, sometimes these things just happen whether your prepared or not

Yea kind of, she is making constant small movements with her jaw that kind of looks like what happens when you have one of thoes old school giant gobstoppers in your mouth, which is what made me think maybe there is something in her mouth.
-
It does kind of look like it may be coming down/out, its hard to say they are so new to me I'm still watching them everyday and getting to know the differences between each of them you know. I honestly would be very very surprised if she was holding anything. But I just haven't found much info on what I would be expecting to see if this is the case. They are such new fish to me it could just be her behaviour and my partner putting thoughts in my head. I don't know :dunno:

I've only just started keeping cichlids, I mean I've only had them for a little over a week. I think one of my 6 various sized yellows is a female and may be holding but I'm just not sure. She wont open her mouth properly so I can't really see in it but I have been watching her closely for the last three days and she appears to want to eat but doesn't and I did catch a very very breif glimpse in her mouth and there may have been pale round things in there but it was so fast I can't be 100% positive it isn't membrane or something. She prefers to stay in her hole but does come out on occasion. The fact that she isn't eating but otherwise appears happy and mobile, fins aren't clamped or anything like that. I have certainly seen a couple of the other yellows (presumably males) swim up to the entrance to her hole and shake. Can anyone help is there anyway to be sure other than just waiting and keeping an eye on her?

Thanks Ilwis, I remain a bit concered as I do not have any other tanks running at the moment, the closest pet/LFS is a two hour return drive and the only person I know of in this area who has tanks has cichlids as well, so if they the loaches don't work out there isn't really a plan B for the lill guys. I'm going to have to consider all of this advice a bit further, it may be best for me to stick with the reliable brissle noses at this point, at least until I either move up to the 6ft or talk my fiance into letting me have a third tank. I don't want to get a fish only to traumatise it then have no where for it to go.
